There is a really interesting series of articles in the Guardian called "Greece on the Breadline" about how they are managing key issues like alternative currencies, education, health issues and food security throughout the current debt crisis. It's an interesting case study to see how they are building social systems and community.

 I have only read these articles about their use of cashless currency (Tems), and the other about the "potato movement" linking farmers with consumers.
