MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS!

There are several excellent opportunities for you to get up and get involved in our community this week.  So many people are looking for something to do to show that they do not agree with the direction this country is going.  The best thing we can all do is to take the time now to learn more about the candidates that we will be voting on in November to represent us in Washington and Lansing.  Here are some opportunities to do just that this week in Manistee County!

On Thursday March 19th at 7pm in the West Shore Community College building on River Street in downtown Manistee the Manistee County Democratic Party will be recognizing and celebrating the hard work being done by our township and city clerks to ensure we have free, fair, and secure elections in Manistee County.  Marie Wicks, recently retired clerk for the city of East Lansing, will present "Anatomy of an Election" which provides the cold, hard facts that dispel the lies and misinformation still being spread by the MAGA election deniers.  Rebecca Amidon, candidate for Michigan state senate in District 32 and Brianna Scott, current chairperson of the Michigan State University Board of Trustees, will also be at this meeting to listen to voters. Plan to join and personally thank our clerks and interact with the candidates looking to serve you in Lansing.

Also on Thursday March 19th at 5:30pm in the Maple Grove Township hall (old Kaleva School building) the Manistee County League of Women Voters will be holding a community conversation about property taxes.  They will have experts who can tell you how your property is assessed and how the tax rate is established.  They will also have information on how these property taxes are utilized to provide essential services in your community.

On Saturday March 21st at 5pm in the Manistee First Congregational United Church of Christ (the big church by the county courthouse) the Manistee Indivisible group will be holding a community dinner in honor of our immigrant neighbors. The meal will be free to all who attend, and donations will be accepted to be used to support those being detained in the ICE prison in Baldwin, MI. There will be a panel addressing how neighbors can support each other and our local immigrant communities.  Families with children are welcome, and a special children's activity room will be provided to allow parents to mingle with other adults.

We appreciate the donations that are rolling in for the two billboards that will be up on US31 north and southbound from July 1-October 31.  We still welcome and need additional donations for these billboards that will feature positive pro-Democrat messages.  You can donate using this secure link:  https://www.manisteecountydemocrats.us/donations.html#!form/Donations
or if you prefer, you can mail a check to PO Box 65 Manistee, MI 49660.

I will not be able to produce a newsletter next week, but I will be joining you and hundreds of your closest friends on Saturday March 28 at 10am for the NO KINGS protest rally in Manistee.  We will gather along the west side of US31 starting at First Street and stretching north to the bridge.  Bring you signs and bring along a friend or two and let's show that the people in Manistee County are not happy with the chaos, corruption, and cruelty of the regime in Washington.
