MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS!
I was one of the many participants in the first annual Walk to End Homelessness in Manistee. As we walked, I took note of the people around me. I recognized many of them from meetings and rallies organized by the Manistee Democratic Party or the non-partisan
Manistee Indivisible group. These people have consistently shown up as advocates for those among us who are being oppressed or have fallen on hard times. These are the people who have been sneered at and unjustly accused of being socialists or communists by
others who have been indoctrinated by messages of fear and division. I also had the pleasure of knocking on doors this afternoon in Manistee. I enjoyed some truly remarkable positive conversations with voters who are anxious and ready for this election to
be over. The single thread of similarity that wove through all these conversations with these voters was corruption! These voters recognize that the current administration in Washington is solely focused on enriching the Trump family and their Epstein-class
billionaire buddies and has no intention of doing anything beneficial for the American people. If you are suffering from anxiety and worry, I suggest you come out and knock on some doors and hear from your neighbors about their resolve to vote for positive
change on November 3rd!
Join us on Wednesday, September 30 at 10am to help with the Feeding America Food Truck. We will be putting the bags together in the Lakeshore Baptist Church parking lot (behind
Burger King). We typically distribute about 8000 lbs of groceries to about 300 food insecure families in Manistee County every month. With the help of the typically great crew of volunteers, we are done before 12 noon.
We will be POPPING UP in Wellston on Wednesday September 30 at 2pm at the intersection of M55 and Seaman Road.
We will have yard signs, buttons, and candidate information to share. Please stop by and visit us. Stop by and help us as we smile and wave to drivers passing by showing them that we have Democrats in this area
who are supporting our candidates.
Thursday October 1st at 5pm at the Brown Township Hall 8233 Coates Highway the Manistee County League of Women Voters is holding a community conversation on voting rights and statewide
ballot proposals. This is a great opportunity to learn more about your rights to a free, fair, and secure election as well as to learn more about the ballot proposals that if approved will open up the state constitution
to an amending convention and one that will prevent state regulated utilities and contractors from contributing to any candidate in a state election.
Friday, October 2nd at 7:30pm in the Ramsdell Theater Manistee's own troubadour Nick Veine will be performing a tribute to James Taylor. This
will provide a much better return on your investment compared to the $25 the Manistee County Republican Party is charging you to get to meet your US Congressman that same evening (LOL!)
We are still working to raise money to help eliminate medical debt for our neighbors.
We have set a goal to raise $2000 which will enable us to wipe out $200,000 in medical debt that may be hanging over our friends and neighbors. Here is a safe, secure link that you can use to donate to this cause.
If you prefer, you can mail a check to PO Box 65, Manistee, MI 49660.
SAVE THESE DATES!
Sunday October 4th at 1:30pm at the Manistee County Democrats River Street Office. Join us to knock on doors for Rebecca Amidon's campaign
for Michigan state senate. We are talking to neighbors who have previously voted for Democrats but may not have voted in the 2024 election. We want to remind them how important their vote is in this election. Our experience has been very positive about
contacting these voters.
Wednesday, October 7th we will be POPPING UP in Brethren on High Bridge Road across from the Brethren high school.
Plan to stop by and pick up candidate yard signs and learn more about the great slate of candidates we have on the November 3rd ballot.
Sunday October 11th the annual Country potluck picnic will be held at Tim and Wanda Joseph's farm at 11171 Kerry Road in Brethren.
Bring a picnic dish to share and come enjoy fresh apple cider, good music, and good conversations with other progressive minded people. We also expect some of our candidates to join us providing you with another
opportunity to learn more about their plans and policies.
As always, please let me know how we can improve these weekly newsletters. I welcome your feedback and value your continued support!
