MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS!

Well, we made it through last week's threats to annihilate a country of over 90 million humans who refuse to bend the knee and obey the ravings of a madman!  But enough of the chaos, corruption and cruelty in Washington.  Here in Manistee County, we saw some truly exceptional work from our local governments.  The Manistee City Planning Commission and the City Council have taken significant steps to improve access to affordable housing by changing zoning rules to allow smaller, more affordable houses to be constructed on smaller lots in the city.  The Planning Commission is also working to change zoning rules to allow more in-home child daycare facilities designed to help alleviate the "childcare desert" designation that does not make Manistee County proud.  It is great to see our local governments making common sense decisions to improve the quality of life for all residents just like a real government is supposed to work!  Take the time to thank our city council members and the members of the Manistee City Planning Commission.

Speaking of WORK, here are some opportunities for you to get involved, engaged, or educated this coming week:

The Manistee County Habitat for Humanity has the opportunity to earn funding from Consumers Energy Consumers Energy will match your on-line gift 2:1. This means your gift of $100 becomes $150; $1,000 turns to $1,500; $10,000--$15,000 (You get the idea!)  Manistee County Habitat for Humanity Board Member, Mick Symanski said, “Thanks to this match from Consumers Energy, and donors, the funding will go further at a time when the ‘Power of Home’ is more important than ever.

Donations MUST be made online through this link -   Power of Home 2026

The Manistee County Democratic Party (MCDP) will hold their regular monthly information meeting on Thursday, April 16 at 7pm in the West Shore Community College building on River Street in downtown Manistee. This will be a great opportunity to meet, listen, and talk to candidates running to represent Manistee County voters in the Michigan Senate and Michigan House!  Mark Yonkman is a retired lawyer now operating his family's legacy farm in Wexford County.  Mark is running for state senate in the 36th District which includes the residents of Manistee county living north of 8 Mile Rd and east of US31.  Angel Coon is running for state house in the 102nd District which includes residents living south of 8 Mile Rd.  We will also hear from Jamie Brantz who is our regional representative of the Michigan Democratic Party Project 83 providing support to help rural Michigan elect Democrats up and down the ballot. We look forward to you joining us, but if you can't be there in person you can join using this ZOOM link:

The MCDP will have two billboards on US31 from July 1 through October 31.  One will be the digital billboard on southbound US31 near Northside Bar that we will be able to change the message often during those four months.
The northbound conventional billboard just over the US31 bridge will have the same message for the duration.  We want YOUR input on the billboard message, and we have created three options for your selection.

Here is a link to vote on your favorite: https://surveymars.com/q/itNrhMs9C
We need your help to pay for these billboards.
