Manistee County Democrats!

This week looks like it will feature Pure Michigan summer weather that we can all enjoy.  We certainly had a perfect morning to welcome US Senate candidate Mallory McMorrow to Manistee on Saturday.  She spoke for 10 minutes and then took questions from the crowd for another 50 minutes.  She was genuinely impressiveuditj with smart and thoughtful answers to the questions and concerns expressed by Manistee County voters.  We will have a challenge making a decision in the primary voters' booth, but the three candidates with a D after their name are all more qualified than the millionaire from Florida who will be on the other side of the ballot in November. The Outsider restaurant once again outdid themselves to make us welcome, and the folks who attended certainly enjoyed the great food that this place consistently provides.  If you were not able to join us, please make every effort to attend one of the candidate townhall sessions that we will be holding for statewide and regional candidates prior to the August 4 primary.  We want Manistee County voters to be educated on the candidates so they can make the best choice on who will represent them in Washington and Lansing for the next two years!

We are putting this event up first because you will need to make a reservation to attend the Manistee County League of Women Voters Annual Dinner on Friday June 5 at 6pm at Portage Point Inn using this link:
The featured speakers will be Peter Payette and Ed Ronco of Interlochen Public Radio.  They will be delivering the message about freedom of the press through non-biased news reporting on the national and local levels.

It is not too early begin planning for the National Forest Festival July 4th parade through downtown Manistee.  The Manistee County Democratic Party HQ office will be open during the parade, and we will be inviting the parade goers of all ages to join our ORANGE CRUSH PARTY! (We hope you appreciate the symbolism as we all want to crush and stop the Orange Clown show in DC!) We will need a LOT of Orange Crush pop to share with the 5000 folks that typically attend this parade! If you would be so kind as to purchase a 12 pack of Orange Crush pop on your next visit to Meijer or Family Fare and drop it off at the River Street office, we would appreciate your donation for this excellent party idea!  A great way to celebrate America's 250th anniversary.

Save the Date!  Sunday June 14th is Flag Day (it is also the 80th birthday of the old, Orange-tinted Clown who is holding a bloodlust cage match on the White House lawn).  Manistee Indivisible will NOT be wasting time watching this dystopian Roman orgy; they will be celebrating America with flags, family, friends, fun and frisbee golf!  All are welcome to join in starting at 1pm at the Lighthouse Park Frisbee Golf Course on Cherry Street in Manistee.  Frisbee golf discs will be provided, or you can bring your own. The only requirement is to have fun and enjoy the day with others who care about our country and our freedom. This will be a great way to have fun while protesting the chaos, corruption and cruelty in both Washington and Lansing!

Nominations for the 2026 Don and Marge Jennings Award are now open.  If you know someone who has worked tirelessly to improve social justice for all residents in Manistee County, please nominate them for this prestigious award.  You can access the nomination form using this link:
Nominations will close on July 11, 2026.  The award dinner will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Manistee National Golf Resort.

We really appreciate the donations that have rolled in to the GoFundMe site and the MCDP PO Box to help pay for the two billboards that will go up on US31 in Manistee from July 1 through October 31.  You will be proud to see these messages as you drive by. We have collected close to $3000 so far from over 35 donations!  Here is the GoFundMe link:

We certainly hope you are finding this weekly newsletter informative and useful.  Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any ideas or suggestions to improve this newsletter.  We do this to serve the residents of Manistee County and to help them make better decisions at the ballot box!
