Subject: Weekly Action Newsletter

MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS!

We are actively gearing up to knock on doors for our candidates up and down the ballot!  We have over 40 dedicated volunteers that are serving as Precinct Delegates/Neighborhood Leaders that will be reaching out to solicit your help in contacting voters in your neighborhood to be sure that they know about our candidates and have a plan to vote in the November 3rd election.

We will be offering canvassing/door knocking training every Thursday evening at 7pm in the Manistee County Democratic Party River Street office.  This training will help you become more comfortable and confident when contacting your neighbors to find out what they are concerned about and if they will be able to support our slate of candidates in November.  We will provide you with best practices and other resources to help make your efforts easier and more effective.  If you are hesitant about volunteering to knock on doors, please attend one of these weekly training sessions to see if this action is something you can help with.

Rebecca Amidon's campaign will be looking for help door knocking in Manistee.  They plan to go out every Sunday afternoon starting on Sunday August 30th from 1:30-3:30pm.  Please come to the office by 1pm to get updated on campaign information and get your assigned addresses.

The Abdul for Senate campaign is looking for volunteers for their campaign from Manistee County. They have both part-time paid and volunteer positions available. If you are interested in helping, please contact Eric Lampinen via email: lampi...@gmail.com or phone: 231-690-5542 and he will connect you with the campaign contact.

The Feeding America Food Truck will be at the Lakeshore Church parking lot (behind Burger King) on Wednesday, August 26.  Please come at 10am to help load the bags with over 8000 lbs. of groceries for distribution to about 400 families in Manistee County that are food insecure.  With your help we are typically done by 12 noon.

As Health Care Costs Soar, Local Democrats’ New Initiative Delivers Relief to Families in Need in Manistee County!

The Manistee County Democratic Party recently announced that it is joining a national effort to help neighbors confront the high cost of health care in America.

You shouldn't go into debt for getting sick. But in places like Manistee County, that outcome is far too familiar. The national campaign will raise money to relieve medical debt.  Every $1 donated will result in $100 of medical debt relief for families right here in Manistee County!

"Currently we know that in Manistee County we have people that are suffering from crushing medical debt," said John Helge, Chair of the Manistee County Democratic Party. "When we work together like this, we can take some of that burden off our friends and neighbors and help them get back on their feet. “

In Manistee County and all across the country, our hardworking neighbors are facing a tough reality: everything costs more, and it’s getting harder to keep up. When a medical emergency hits, it can shatter a family’s financial stability. No one should ever face bankruptcy or ruin just because they or a loved one got sick or hurt. That’s just wrong.

The Manistee County Democratic Party has secured commitments from dedicated supporters who have pledged to match every single dollar raised in this fundraiser to erase medical debt right here in Manistee County!  If we raise $1000 then we can eliminate $100,000 in medical debt currently held by Manistee County residents.

Imagine the relief: our neighbors, who are working hard but struggling to get by, will receive a life-changing notification that their debt is gone. No hidden fees, no strings attached – just a genuine fresh start. This is about helping our neighbors breathe easier and get back on their feet.

Here is a safe, secure link that you can use to donate to this cause.

Hold the Dates for these important upcoming events:
  • Saturday September 5th at 12noon, the AFL-CIO is holding a Labor Day parade.  We will gather at 11:30am in the First Street Armory Youth Project parking lot for a very short walk down First Street to the Lions' Pavilion.
  • Sunday, September 6th join us for the Brethren Village Parade.  Gather in Brethren at 2:30pm.  This short parade kicks off at 3pm.  We will have had a strong presence in all the Manistee County village parades this summer with your help and support!
  • On Thursday, September 10th the Manistee County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a candidates' forum at the West Shore Community College building on River Street in downtown Manistee.  Start time for this event is to be announced soon.
  • Saturday, September 19th at 12noon Manistee Indivisible will be holding a Get Out the Vote rally on the west side of US31 from First Street north to River Street.  Please bring your signs urging people to VOTE or showing them why it is so important to VOTE on November 3rd. This will be a non-partisan rally, so no candidate campaign signs.
  • Following this rally on Saturday September 19th, you will be welcome to join the Manistee County Democratic Party at 3pm when we will be celebrating Manistee's "Best Freshwater Beach in the USA" at the Lions' Pavilion.  We will be hearing from Cliff and Bonnie Demos who are activists helping the people being detained at the private prison in Baldwin.  We will also hear from state-wide and regional candidates on the November ballot. Food, pop, and adult beverages will be available for a small donation.
  • On Sunday, October 4th, the annual Fall Farm Picnic will be held at Tim and Wanda Joseph's farm in Brown Township.
As always, I look for and appreciate your feedback on this weekly newsletter.  Please do not hesitate to let me know how we can make it more effective and meaningful for you.
