MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS!

On Tuesday, August 4th the primary election will provide us with a strong candidate who will wage a strong campaign (with your help) to defeat the ineffective incumbent Moolenaar and represent all of us in Michigan's Second Congressional District in Washington, DC.  We already know that our two candidates for state senate (Rebecca Amidon and Mark Yonkman) and our two candidates for state house (Angel Coon and Mitch Distin) will be on the November ballot to go to Lansing and represent all of us in Manistee County not just those who have bought their votes through fancy dinners with lobbyists and campaign contributions. All these candidates will have less than 85 days to get the job done.  YOU can help by volunteering to knock on your neighbors' doors to let them know you support these candidates or by volunteering to make phone calls, send text messages, or mail postcards to get as many people to vote as possible in November. If you want to see good people representing us, you need to get engaged and get active!

It was standing room only at the River Street office for the US Senate debate between Haley Stevens and Abdul El Sayed last Monday evening.  We were joined by three reporters from the New York Times achieved their goal to observe how and why Democrats in rural Michigan are gathering to support their preferred candidate in this race.  The reporters asked a lot of questions and recorded every word, much of which may end up being broadcast on their daily podcast The Daily - The New York Times and used in the digital print version The Morning Newsletter - The New York Times of this major newspaper soon after the results of Tuesday's election are published.  Access to both these links is free of charge.  

Preparations for the Don and Marge Jennings Award Dinner are moving along rapidly.  The big tent at the Manistee National Golf Resort will be ready at 5pm on Saturday, August 15 to welcome you to this annual fundraiser event.  We will be hosting two state-wide candidates that will be on the November ballot as our guest speakers. Eli Savit is running for Michigan Attorney General, and he is a very exciting speaker who will bring continued focus and energy to this important executive role.  Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Megan Cavanagh will also be on hand to let us know how important our state judicial branch is functioning as a balance keeping the legislative and executive branches aligned with the rule of law and conformance to our state constitution.  If you have not already purchased your tickets, please use this link to safely use your credit card.
