Manistee County Democrats:

Old Sleighbell Weekend in Manistee is a big deal!  We have shown that we can celebrate the Christmas holidays in a grand manner welcoming over 5000 hardy folks to see our Victorian-era parade highlighted by the draft horses pulling the 30+ foot tree down River Street.  Lots of work is done by volunteers to ensure the big weekend goes off without a hitch!  We hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving celebration and that you all have arrived home safe and sound from any travels.  Here are some opportunities to get educated and engaged this week:

Tuesday December 2nd at 5:30pm at the Ludington City Library 217 E. Ludington Ave . There will be a presentation on MICare by Michigan state representative Carrie Rheingans.  MICare is a proposed statewide single payer healthcare insurance system.  See how Michigan is taking the initiative to make affordable healthcare a reality for everyone.

Wednesday December 3rd   between 1-3pm join Dick Albee at the Manistee County Democratic Party office at 319 River Street for a casual roundtable discussion about issues that concern you and your friends and family.

If you can't make it to Ludington, you will have the opportunity to hear about MICare from the dynamic duo of Carrie Rheingans and Betsy Coffia in Traverse City on Wednesday December 3rd at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation 6726 Center Road.  Use this link to register for this event: https://click.ngpvan.com/k/120122237/585340779/750946256?nvep=ew0KICAiVGVuYW50VXJpIjogIm5ncHZhbjovL3Zhbi9OR1AvTkdQMTAvMS83OTEyMSIsDQogICJEaXN0cmlidXRpb25VbmlxdWVJZCI6ICIxNjg4Nzk2Yi00OWNjLWYwMTEtODE5NS0wMDBkM2ExZDU4YWEiLA0KICAiRW1haWxBZGRyZXNzIjogImpvaG5taGVsZ2VAZ21haWwuY29tIg0KfQ%3D%3D&hmac=ow1WFhlf66j-h9KOXxt_uuNHQeZhTf_P-Xn3xQfQAAc=&emci=28bb6b34-25cb-f011-8195-000d3a1d58aa&emdi=1688796b-49cc-f011-8195-000d3a1d58aa&ceid=29053855

Be sure to take in the Lakeside Club's Festival of Trees at the Ramsdell Regional Center for the Arts ballroom starting on Friday, December 5th from 1-5:30pm and continuing on Saturday, December 6th from 11am-8pm.  Bring cans of food to vote for your favorite tree and help food insecure families in Manistee County this holiday season.

On Saturday December 6th starting at 1pm the Manistee County Democratic Party office at 319 River Street will be open offering warm drinks and warm conversation to visitors and friends in town for the parade.  Please plan to stop by and share some of the festivities with us. Bring your friends and family who may be visiting from out of town!

Save these important dates for next week:

On Wednesday, December 10th, the Feeding America Food Truck will be at the Lakeshore Church (behind Burger King).  Join us at 10am to distribute up to 10,000 lbs of groceries to food insecure families in Manistee County.  Dress warm as we work outside regardless of the weather.  We are typically done by 12 noon.

Friday, December 12th at 6pm at the Manistee Township Hall at 410 Holden Street in Parkdale . Join your friends from the Manistee County Democratic Party for a festive holiday potluck gathering.
