MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS!

I attended the "State of Manistee County" event last Friday morning hosted by the Manistee Chamber of Commerce.  We heard from community leaders who are subject matter experts in county, city, and township governance, education, work force development, local manufacturing, tourism, and economic development.  They all did a great job not only identifying the challenges they face but also sharing their plans to address those challenges to make Manistee County an even better place to live, work, and thrive.

On Monday at 10am in the Manistee City Hall our state rep Curt Vanderwall will be holding a townhall meeting. Please come and listen and hear what he has to say about what is going on in Lansing and how he plans to take action to represent all the voters in his district.  We all have the right and the civic duty to hold our elected officials accountable to represent the interests that serve the greater good of all their constituents, not just those who voted for them!  Here is a link to a post that provides some questions to ask our state rep: https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=27881522848208354&set=gm.26758547833807531&idorvanity=3798750863547220

Also, on Monday from 2-4pm stop by the Manistee County Dems office on River Street to meet Angel Coon.  Angel is campaigning to defeat the long-time, tired old, incumbent Vanderwall in November.  She is a dynamic, smart individua with fresh ideas, and she is working hard to earn the trust and support of all voters in the 102nd Michigan house district.

On Friday May 1st the Manistee Indivisible group is organizing an "Unhappy Hour" beginning at 5pm in the Dial-A-Ride parking lot.  Bring your favorite, creative, and innovative protest sign as there will be a contest to select a crowd favorite!  We will be using the Veterans Memorial Park amphitheater and the gazebo to host speakers from community organizations trying to help people that have been hurt by the federal budget cuts and the abusive crackdown on undocumented migrants seeking a better, safer life for their families.  Manistee will be joining communities across the USA that are calling for a general strike and protest rallies on Friday.

Save these dates! We are bringing major state-wide candidates to Manistee to enable you to meet and evaluate them in person.
  • Tuesday, May 12th from 4-6pm Dr. Abdul El Sayed candidate for US Senate will be in Manistee. Dr. El Sayed is a dynamic speaker and a proven leader who brings fresh progressive ideas to his campaign to represent us in Washington.  We have not yet finalized the location for this event.
  • Saturday, May 30th from 1-3pm Mallory McMorrow candidate for US Senate will be in Manistee.   Ms. McMorrow is one of the fresh, young leaders in the Michigan senate who is working hard listening to the issues that are most important to voters in all 83 counties in Michigan.  We have not yet finalized the location for this event.
