MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS AND FRIENDS!
Early last week I was contacted by David Phelps who is a nationally known political consultant and writer who has a wide following on social media. David was interested in learning more about the Manistee County Democratic Party and our efforts to improve social, economic, and environmental justice in this rural Michigan county. David had heard about us through the New York Times Daily Podcast about our support for the Abdul El Sayed campaign for the US Senate. Will Michigan Rewrite the Rules of Democratic Politics? He had also seen our social media posts about the potential for $200,0000 in Medical Debt Forgiveness program we are currently working on: Medical Debt Relief —T Donate via ActBlue. David wrote a wonderful essay that is posted on his Substack channel about the Manistee County Democratic Party he has titled (2) The little county that could. Follow this link to read the essay. (You can read it for free just by checking the $0 option). The subtitle David chose for this essay is: "In rural Michigan, Democrats are building credibility by becoming the neighbors people know will show up."
We have several great opportunities this week in Manistee County to show up, get engaged, and get involved!
On Monday, September 14 at 1:00pm at the Manistee County Democratic Party River Street office, we will be holding a Poll Challenger certification training session. As a poll challenger trained and certified by the Michigan Democratic Party, you will be allowed to observe operations at precinct polling locations to ensure proper rules and regulations are being followed. We do not anticipate any problems with any precinct polling places in Manistee County due to the dedicated, experienced, and well-trained election workers. This is just one more opportunity for concerned citizens to safely and effectively engage in the process of secure, free, and fair elections.
Monday, September 14 at 6:30pm the Manistee Indivisible Group will be holding their monthly meeting at the West Shore Community College building on River Street in Manistee. They will be planning non-partisan actions that will be focused on encouraging Manistee County residents to have a solid plan to get out and vote in the November 3rd election.
Manistee Indivisible will be holding a "Get Out And VOTE!" rally on Saturday, September 19 starting at 12 noon. Bring signs urging people to VOTE and gather along the west side of US31 in Manistee starting at the intersection of First Street and extending north to River Street. This rally will be laser-focused on getting people to have a plan to vote in the upcoming general election. Signs should be focused on the importance of voting as an American citizen. We really don't want to see signs bashing the current administration or advocating for specific candidates. Signs supporting absentee ballots or early voting are recommended also. Manistee Indivisible is hoping for a large turnout of people supporting our right to vote and to have a say in our government at all levels.

Also, on Saturday, September 19 at 4pm join the Manistee County Democratic Party at the First Street Beach Lions Pavilion to celebrate the end of summer. We will have a special presentation by the Cliff and Bonnie Demos founders of the Immigrant Action Coalition sharing their work to turn "Resistance into Assistance" at the private GEO immigrant detention center in Baldwin. All are welcome to join us for food, drinks, and socializing with like-minded people who care.
