MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS!

If there was ever a week for you to rise up and get involved, this would be the one!  Another tragic murder in the streets of Minneapolis by the poorly trained, poorly led, masked thugs cosplaying as federal agents certainly justifies our anger and outrage.  Here are some opportunities for action!

MONDAY JANUARY 26 at 5PM join with your family, friends, and neighbors at the intersection of River Street and US31 in downtown Manistee to loudly but peacefully and safely protest the extra-legal out-of-control activity of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency aka, ICE! We will be coordinating with the Manistee Police Department to have a police car and officers highly visible during our rally. Dress warmly and bring your favorite anti-ICE sign or stop by the Manistee County Dems office at 319 River Street to make a new sign.  The office will be open at 3pm.
Here are some ideas for signs that you can consider:

“No Human Being Is Illegal”

  • “Families Belong Together”

  • “Seeking Asylum Is a Human Right”

  • “End Detention, End Deportation”

  • “Dignity Has No Borders”

“Abolish ICE — Build Humane Immigration Policy”

  • “ICE Harms Communities, Not Protects Them”

  • “Stop Criminalizing Migration”

  • “Compassion > Cruelty”

  • “We Need Reform, Not Raids”

“Borders Don’t Make Us Safer”

  • “Tear Down the Fear”

  • “End the Camps”

  • “Let Them Stay”

  • “Freedom to Move, Freedom to Live”

“ICE Melts Under Heat — Apply Pressure”

  • “Cool It, ICE”

  • “Melt ICE, Not Families”

  • “ICE Out of Our Communities”

“Immigrants Make America Stronger”

  • “We Stand With Our Neighbors”

  • “Protect People, Not Borders”

  • “Love Has No Papers”

WEDNESDAY JANUARY 28 at 10AM we will be working to pack up over 9000 pounds of groceries for distribution to about 400 food insecure families at the Feeding America Food Truck that will be in the parking lot of the Lakeshore Church (behind Burger King).  Yes, it WILL be COLD so dress in layers in your warmest winter gear and warm your heart by helping our neighbors who are in need.

SATURDAY JANUARY 31 you can join others who gather every Saturday across the road from the GEO private prison in Baldwin that is being utilized as an ICE detention center.  They start their vigil at 12 noon and typically end by 2pm.  If there is enough interest, we can possibly arrange to carpool there and back on Saturday.
