MANISTEE COUNTY DEMOCRATS!

I attended the Michigan Democratic Party Nominating Convention in Lansing yesterday.  This was actually a very strong unity rally in support of the winners of the August primary and the previous nominees for Michigan Attorney General and Secretary of State.  We heard from all the candidates up and down the ballot.  My admiration for Abdul El Sayed was reinforced hearing him speak to several different caucus meetings with great charisma, clarity, and intellect.  I had a similar reaction to hearing Ben Ambrose our candidate to defeat the Republican incumbent for US Representative.  Ben is just the candidate we need to send to Washington and stand up to the chaos, corruption, and cruelty that our current US Rep has not had the courage to do for us!  Another thing I learned yesterday was how important it will be to vote for the Democrat candidates for the university boards of Michigan, Michigan State, and Wayne State.  We also need to remember to turn our ballot over and vote for Megan Cavanagh and Noah Hood for the Michigan Supreme Court.

We have restocked the yard sign racks at the River Street office.  Stop by and pick them up and show your neighbors that you support our candidates!  We now have yard signs for Benson, Savit, Gilchrist, Cavanagh and Hood, Rebecca Amidon, and Angel Coon. We are waiting for yard signs for Ben Ambrose for US Congress, Mark Yonkman for State Senate, and Mitch Distin for State House.  Our big sign team has been at work putting up big campaign signs for the Amidon State Senate campaign and, as soon as we get them, those key locations on major highways in Manistee County will be sporting signs for our other candidates.

On Tuesday September 1st at 6:30pm at the West Shore Community College building on River Street the Manistee Indivisible group will be showing a documentary film "Everyone is Lying to You for Money" about cryptocurrency industry and their huge infusion of money into political races and the threat to the collapse of our current economic system by this unfettered dark money scheme!

On Wednesday September 2nd from 12noon to 2pm we will hold a POPUP in Copemish on M115.  We will have yard signs and candidate campaign information to share with anyone who stops by to chat.  We hope that you can come and join us if you live in the Copemish area on Wednesday afternoon.  We will be showing the folks coming by on the highway that we are supporting Democrats up and down the ballot.

Join us on Saturday, September 5th at 12 noon in the First Street Armory parking lot for the LaborFest Parade.  It is a short walk down to the Lions Pavilion on First Street beach.

Here are some coming events that you should put on your calendars:
  • Sunday, September 6th join us for the Brethren Village Parade.  Gather in Brethren at 2:30pm.  This short parade kicks off at 3pm.  We will have had a strong presence in all the Manistee County village parades this summer with your help and support!
  • On Thursday, September 10th the Manistee County Chamber of Commerce will be holding a candidates' forum at the West Shore Community College building on River Street in downtown Manistee.  Start time for this event is to be announced soon.
  • Saturday, September 19th at 12noon Manistee Indivisible will be holding a Get Out And Vote rally on the west side of US31 from First Street north to River Street.  Please bring your signs urging people to VOTE or showing them why it is so important to VOTE on November 3rd. This will be a non-partisan rally, so no candidate campaign signs.
  • Following this rally on Saturday September 19th, you will be welcome to join the Manistee County Democratic Party at 4pm when we will be celebrating Manistee's "Best Freshwater Beach in the USA" at the Lions' Pavilion.  We will be hearing from Cliff and Bonnie Demos who are activists helping the people being detained at the private prison in Baldwin.  We will also hear from state-wide and regional candidates on the November ballot. Food, pop, and adult beverages will be available for a small donation.
  • On Sunday, October 11th, the annual Fall Farm Picnic will be held at Tim and Wanda Joseph's farm in Brown Township.

As always, I look for and appreciate your feedback on this weekly newsletter.  Please do not hesitate to let me know how we can make it more effective and meaningful for you.
