We received a message today from Bill Zimmerman. He has a small group of people that use Hamlin field and would like to make improvements. Who would they need to contact about that? I can't remember if the city actually owns the field, or if it is held by a trust...
His email address is zimmer...@hotmail.com

Thank you,
Jen

Below is a letter sent bill zimmerman.

Subject: Hamlin Field

Hamlin field is owned by the trust of Max Hamlin. Max Hamlin was a loyal Kiwanian and donated the use of the field to the local Kiwanis club for the youth of the community. for the last 60 or so years, the Kiwanis club has done maintenance and some upgrades. The city has also be very cooperative in providing mowing, etc. and they provided the metal bleachers. When Kiwanis did maintenance the members were covered by the club insurance as was the city when the provided their contribution. I doubt that the Max Hamlin trust would have any objection to improvements and the Kiwanis club is for all practical purposes out of business.  The city has no standing to either approve or disapprove of any changes or improvements as long as they met safety and zoning restrictions, e.g. a 25’ electronic scoreboard probably wouldn’t go. The only thing that I can see that would be an issue would be if the Max Hamlin trust was sued for an injury that occurred during renovation, an unlikely occurrence. I would advise you to go to the City Manager and explain what you want to do and see what he says, but the Kiwanis club is in no position to advise or make a decision one way or the other.  I would say, however, as a matter of respect to the Hamlin Trust and Kiwanis it would be nice to keep the name.

Thanks

Thank you for replying to Bill.
At this time until there has been an official club vote, the club is NOT, however "out of business". Please do not further promote that the club is done until that has been voted on.

As I said, “for all practical purposes” and I think that’s accurate. A club that can’t pay it’s bills, handle correspondence or get members to attend is “for all practical purposes” out of business.

Lee,

First of all, the club IS still in business, and will NOT be folding. That is not up to you, nor is the board going to allow this to go to vote. We have agreed that the club will continue. If you do not wish to continue with the club, that is your choice, but we will not continue this discussion about folding the club with you. We are not going to continue with this flip flopping back and forth for months on end, nor are we going to continue having members telling the public that we are out of business. That is not how this club will be run. Our next meeting with be at 6pm at the Bungalow as scheduled. We will be having special guests attending that evening so please everyone plan to attend. We will also be going over plans to increase membership and grow the club, which needs to be our main focus. Sure the pancake breakfast is off for this year, however we will not be donating the equipment as that was not a legal vote, and we will be planning to move forward with it next year once the armory youth project has their kitchen completed and can host events. Any questions, please let me know. Otherwise, I will see you all on the 8th!

I have removed all former members from our Google group. We had 21 people on this group that had no business being included in club correspondence.

Jennifer the special guests who will be attending the meeting , might I ask if these are perspective new members or if they are Kiwanis people who can help us rebuild our club.
Has the checking account been signed by you and Rhonda so bills can get paid and also the onsies can be picked up.

Thanks, Marilyn

The guests that are coming are Dee Hudson, Tom Talluto, and potentially a few others. They are going to brainstorm with us on ways that we can increase membership.

I signed on the checking account (for the final paperwork) on Saturday. Rhonda just needs to sign to confirm, and we are good to go.

I also received an email from the incoming President of the Manistee Rotary. They are having the same problems with gaining membership, and are interested in teaming up with up for projects to potentially boost both of our memberships. We had been told by a former member that the Rotary was not interested in a partnership, however that was untrue.

I reached out to Bill Zimmerman this morning whom was he person that contacted us about having a group go out and work on Hamlin Field. I know he had a small group of people interested, so I told him when we are planning on holding our event to see if they are interested in participating. I completely expect to have a large turnout for this!
