So tonight's meeting was easily our best yet! Tonight we decided that we are going to get a community restoration project going on Hamlin Field. We have had members of the community inquire about doing something with the field, so this is our opportunity to shine. Our plan is to plan a restoration day on July 1st to celebrate the 55th year of Hamlin Field. I will get to work on a list of things that we need to do to accomplish this to bring to the next meeting. We also need to find out who we need to speak to to get included in the 4th of July parade. I think if we are successful with the project, then follow up with our presence in the parade, we could really get a response.
At the next meeting here is what we need to accomplish...
1: Let's pick out Kiwanis shirts and sizes and get an order placed for each member of our club.
2: Come up with ideas to narrow down for our restoration day. Obviously we can't overhaul the entire field in one day, so we need to narrow down what needs the most attention.
3: Come up with partners! I am going to reach out to the people that had interest in restoring the park first. I am also going to contact the manager of the Ludington Home Depot to see if we can get a Team Depot project going on this. Be thinking about who else would make a good partner, or individuals in the community that may want to help. Chris, maybe some wrestlers?
4: Think about what we are going to do to pull people into our project. Maybe host a cookout for our volunteers?
5: Our followup in the parade. We need to get membership flyers ordered when we order the t-shirts, also maybe stickers, pencils, etc, to hand out to adults during the parade. And of course candy to throw to the kids. Does anyone know someone local with a classic car? We need to check our storage unit to see what we have for banners, otherwise we need to get one made. This same banner can be used at the convention in September
Oh yes, the convention! The Kiwanis convention is September 6th to 8th at Crystal Mountain. Dee has been incredibly generous and has offered us free classes for myself, Chris, Rhonda, and possibly Janeen (she wasn't sure if there were going to be treasurer classes this year, but I will find out on Wednesday). These classes will show us exactly what we likely don't know already about our positions so we know exactly what we should be doing. Please everyone plan to attend Friday afternoon, and all day Saturday at least. Once the registration comes out we can discuss costs and decide what we can do as a club to make sure everyone can attend. I attended last year and it was a great experience!
The next meeting is May 22nd at 6pm at The Bungalow. Hope to see you all there!
