500 runners did some running at the Run at the Rock race at Cedarock
Park near Burlington, but mostly we were slipping and slidding. I'd
signed up for two laps. One lap was enough. Traction was difficult
to be had. I can only recall one other race that had such tenuous
footing, a marathon on the Seneca Creek Greenway that was covered in
ice for the first half before giving way to mud over the second half.

Yesterday's trip was a romp. I actually stayed on my feet and I
didn't witness any face plants. Not much swearing either. Mostly
giggles. Splashing through puddles is ultimate child's play.

Cedarock is a pleasant place to run. Easy to maintain pace.
Technical sections are brief and infrequent. I look forward to
running the Rock again next year. Preferably in dry conditions.

Someone's fine write-up with photos here:

I slipped a couple times but didn't go down.  That was the muddiest, slipperiest 14 miles I have ever done.  Aren't they still looking for bodies in one of the mud pits ?   I was a bit disappointed in their support this year, however.  Last year they had heated "comfort stations", hot soup at the finish, gels on the course -- this year, water only at aid stations (one had gatorade I think), cold port-o-lets and cold bananas at the end.  Probably won't go back.

I had a BLAST as well.  This is the 3rd year for me and I think it was the most fun.

Muddy-wise, it was worse than any of the XTERRAs I've done, including XTERRA URE which has been historically a mudhole (which I look forward to every year).

Run at the Rock had quite a few missing amenities from years past as you mentioned below.  The one thing I missed the most was the canon start.  New race director, I guess, means cutting corners.  The previous director left some pretty big shoes to fill.

I'll still go back next year because I love the course so much, but I agree that there was quite a bit missing from the race, even though the price didn't change.
