The antagonist of the book was originally known as Grendel the Monster and was subsequently renamed Attel Malagate for the novel version. The magazine version featured a striking cover and interior illustrations by Ed Emshwiller.

Two things are immediately obvious. First, these guys are obsessed with space, so we should strap in for a trip. Eta Carinae, in case you are unfamiliar, is a star system with a combined luminosity that is 5 million times brighter than our sun and a storied history among astronomers.

Star King Bazeu was a planet-like being known as Gozma Star, which grew large by devouring planets. To further his consumption of planets, Bazeu established the Great Star League Gozma to conquer planets for him and prepare them to be consumed. The first planet to be destroyed was the planet Mirellian, home to a race of angelic aliens so peaceful that merely staring at them would cause one to lose all violent thoughts. Bazeu saw their ability to pacify people as a threat to his conquest and thus destroyed their homeworld, though the Mirellians managed to survive by sending a Memory Doll out into space that would seed more of their kind.
Finding themselves inside Bazeu's stomach, the Changemen realize the shocking truth; the planet they are on is in fact Bazeu's true form. A hologram of Bazeu then appears before them and reveals his true nature to them, before attempting to finish them off. However, the Changeman manage to escape by blasting a hole in Bazeu's stomach with the Change Bazooka and getting Gyodai to enlarge the Memory Doll so they can ride out on it. After escaping, the Changemen form Change Robo to finish Bazeu off while Ibuki and their alien allies escape on board Shuttle Base. Flying up in space, the Changemen used Change Robo to plow through Bazeu and get directly to his core. With a slash from Change Robo, the Changemen destroy the core and blow up Gozma Star, killing the planet eater and putting a definitive end to the Gozma's reign of terror.
Bazeu is a cruel and selfish being, driven purely by a desire to sustain himself and grow stronger by devouring the energy of planets. He cares not for his subordinates and rules by fear alone, using his conquered planets as leverage by threatening to destroy them unless their inhabitants serve in his army. Bazeu is also noted for his low tolerance of failure, having any subordinate who fails him enough times executed. At the same time, if a subordinate of his serves a useful function or manages to prove their strength in some way, Bazeu is all to happy to let them live. While he seeks to consume planets purely to survive, Bazeu at times is shown relishing at the destruction he as brought to countless planets across the universe, taking joy in the suffering he has caused. He has also shown amusement at his subordinates (particularly Giluke and Ahames) whenever they do something he finds to be especially wicked.

Before creation, pre-dating concepts such as time and space, there existed only a will. A singular and complete existence with power limited only by its imagination. Inevitably, this will grew bored, very bored. So it came up with the idea of creating other wills to sate its boredom. It took to work creating a grand construction with space for the wills to occupy and time so they could experience events sequentially. After making the groundwork for its construction, reality, it realized that it would know everything that would ever come to pass within it. Finding the idea of knowing everything that would happen before it happens unsatisfying, it decided to give up its 'Omnipotence' and 'Omniscience' and what remained afterward was Veldanava, a being with the creator's will but existing as part of creation rather than something beyond it. [2]
The Humans that Twilight created were spread across the numerous other universes to ensure variety in the cultures they developed, while Veldanava ordered his first and foremost subordinate Feldway to eliminate threats to humanity and ensure they could thrive [3]. With an abundance of different races and cultures quickly populating the entire planet, the gears of fate began to be put in motion. Veldanava isolated parts of his divine authority over creation into seven powerful Ultimate Skills called the Seven Virtues and started to divvy them up to those he considered worthy, passing the rest into the cycle of reincarnation to choose their own masters while leaving only Michael for himself [4]. He met Ramiris and Guy whose powers had already started to reach a level that could potentially stand against his and assigned them special positions called "Administrators" that gave them the authority to speak on his behalf and left the planet and humanity in their care.
At some point, he came into contact with the royalty of the Nasca Kingdom, taking in their crown prince Rudra as his disciple and training him to be a Chosen Hero who could stand equal with the Demon Lord Guy, even giving him Michael so he could better fulfill his dream of a unified world. Eventually, Veldanava and Rudra's sister Lucia fell in love and consummated their relationship, conceiving Milim Nava in the process. The creation of Milim resulted in most of Veldanava's energy being taken away and his body destabilizing. Veldanava used the last of his old body's power to create a sibling for Milim, a Baby Dragon that would serve as her companion so that she never had to be lonely as he had. With almost all of his energy drained, Veldanava's subsequent reincarnation was rather weak. His new body, for all anybody could tell, was essentially "Human". It didn't possess the near-invulnerability his previous draconic body did, and it would even eventually die of old age, bearing a mortal lifespan.
Although appearing in hologram form, Bazeu takes active part and action in managing the invasion of planets. Bazeu personally creates the Space Beast Warriors for his army, taking one member of a conquered race and mutating them with a beam emitted from his "head" even in hologram form. TV STORY-Ep. 7: The Sad Space Beast Warrior! He is also noted for punishing his minions for any failure, firing a beam from his head that causes direct pain to all those hit by it. At one point he even uses the beam on Tsurugi after he steals a space video camera to show Earth as a good planet to those in the Gozma empire. TV STORY-Ep. 21: Gozma's Big Star
Even with the failures and defections of all of his minions, he is still able to approach Earth undetected, by hiding himself into the tail of Halley's Comet, determined to devour the planet and everyone on it. The Changeman and all of their allies are pulled to him within Shuttle Base, where he attacks them directly, using super-powered Hidrers and by trying to absorb them from inside his immense stomach. The Changeman appear to be eaten by him, but they escape by making a massive rupture within Bazeu's body by firing their Power Bazooka to damage him, prompting Gyodai to rebuild and enlarge the destroyed Memory Doll of planet Merle on instinct. Within the confusion, the Changeman fly within the core of Bazeu with Change Robo and use the Dengeki-ken with all of their Earth Force to rip it apart with Super Thunder Volt, destroying the intergalactic conqueror forever. TV STORY-Ep. 55: Farewell, Friends of Space!
This weekend is our nearby town's BBQ Days event, and every year our quilt guild hosts a local Quilt Show and Pie Sale. Yesterday, I assisted the guild members with the check-in of many quilts and quilted crafty projects. I must say, it was quite fun to see everyone's talent as it trickled in one-by-one, and to meet several ladies in the community. Often, I've attended quilt shows and wondered who it was that actually made some of the beautiful quilts. So, having the opportunity to meet these lovely ladies face-to-face was a real treat for me... like having a face with a quilt.
When I received a call last week from one of our local and talented long-arm quilters that she was finished with my Ohio Star quilt, I was ecstatic to begin the binding and get it finished in time for the show. A friend needed to finish binding her quilt for the show as well, so we had a binding party last Sunday afternoon, and from 2 pm till 11 pm I was able to bind the 106" x 117" quilt from beginning to end. Netflix and good company helped me keep going, and now it's all finished!
This particular quilt was, in large part, a group effort. Several months ago I won the "Block Draw" at our quilt guild meeting, which meant that I was able to bring back the preparations (pattern and fabric, cut & prepared) for several blocks and the members would each sew one for me. The next month, they would bring them back and I would put their finished blocks together. Being a king size, I still had quite a few blocks to piece myself plus I needed to add sashing and borders, which were all accomplished using my Singer Featherweight and handy, dandy Featherweight Accurate Seam guide (I truly adore my seam guide -- be sure to check out the video tutorial for how I use it at that link!).
