A Poet’s View

Elementary Chinese

Fire hung on a nail makes a lamp,

two moons make a friend.

A thing that is not bark makes a glass,

two trees, a wood; three trees, a forest.

Ten mouths make a leaf,

a ladybird is a worm that floats.

A woman with a horse is a mother,

a bird wearing armour is a duck.

A fish needs three drops of water.

The sea: a mother wearing a hat

by the waves.

Thought is composed of strength

from a tree, clear sight, and anchored

by a heart.

Matthew,
Many thanks for the effort you are putting into organising the alternative
Chinese class. I am afraid I will not be able to take part as I work on
Saturday mornings. I do hope you will be able to have a good group of
interested students.

If you know of classes at another time, please keep me posted.

All the very best of wishes to all
Alida

Hi Everyone,

Yes, it's a shame that we will no longer have our regular Tuesday night class.

I thought perhaps we could go to dinner next Tuesday night just to catch up (and practise Mandarin?)   Perhaps a restaurant in Eastwood?  What does everyone think?

Unfortunately I will not be able to attend the Saturday morning class.

Regards,

Sandra

Hi Matthew,

I'm interested but who will teach n what format?? My problem is that I can't read (although I will try as I would like to) but would like to improve spoken fluency.

Unfortunately I'm in KL next week, back Mon 23rd

Thanks Matthew for taking the initiative to organise a class.

Hi Patricia

Cherrybrook is great for me but a lot of the guys who don't drive, its
a pain to get from the station to Cherrybrook. Epping would be a good
central place. For me I need to be at Waitara at midday.

If Waitara, about format of the class, always a difficult thing. I
will have a chat to the school with Jason , ted and Terry and get some
details at Waitara class.

Thanks Matt.

My preference is Waitara as it's closer than Cherry Brook or Epping.  So would appreciate it if you can keep me informed.

Thanks.

Hi Sandra

Right now I'm in Hong Kong, so I won't be able to join you guys for dinner. Hope you can all find a suitable class to continue learning Mandarin. I'm really very impressed by your enthusiasm and effort.

All the best

Mei

Hi Everyone,

Next Tuesday night at 7pm is fine with me, however, if the following week is better for most people, this would also be OK with me.

\
Thankyou for your suggestion of venue, Matthew.  Will we make a tentative arrangement to meet at the Eastwood Garden Restaurant at around 7pm this coming Tuesday?  (unless we decide on the week following....)

We would love you to join us, Patricia if you are able as we'd like to keep in contact.

How was your trip, Mei Woon and when will you be back?

Kind Regards,

Sandra

Hi Everyone,

King and I will be there at 7pm on Tuesday night.

If you could book the restaurant for us Matthew, that would be great.  Will you book it under your name or Mandarin-four-tafe?

Glad you can come, Patricia, it will be nice to see you again.

We'll miss you Lei Ping, hope you can come next time.  Meanwhile, have a great time in KL.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks.  We'll grab a table when we get there.

Don't worry if you are not able to book, shouldn't be too busy, being Tuesday night.

See you there,

Sandra

Hi Matthew,
Thanks for keeping me in the loop. Sorry that I missed it but with the rain I don't think that I would have gone as I don't see too well if there is heavy rain. I am sorry that the class folded but I wasn't getting much out of it as we had one of the ladies who just wanted to write everything as she had decided and when we wanted to suggest anything we were told that we could do it ourselves so I thought that it wasn't much point and I didn't have much time anyway. I have swimming on Sat as that is the only day to myself. I finish at 11am. I only want to learn to speak and write at an easy pace as I have enough stress at work already so i don't need to add more.
Thanks for keeping in touch
Regards
