Deborah Diesen presents
The Pout-Pout Fish
Tues. Oct. 6 - 10:30 a.m.

Michigan author Deborah Diesen will be at Manchester District Library on Tuesday, Oct. 6 to read her book The Pout-Pout Fish and present a special program for preschoolers.

The Pout-Pout Fish introduces a fish with a pouty mouth and a gloomy attitude. His ocean-dwelling friends try to cheer him, but he resists their efforts, claiming “I’m a pout-pout fish/With a pout-pout face/So I spread the dreary-wearies/All over the place.” Eventually, one special friend helps the Pout-Pout Fish turn his “dreary wearies” into “cheery-cheeries.” A Time Magazine’s Top 10 Children’s Books of 2008, the book’s “…winning artwork…oozes personality” (Kirkus Reviews). The Pout-Pout Fish was selected for the 2009 Michigan Reads! One State, One Children’s Book program. Funding is provided by Target and the Library of Michigan.

Ready to read The Pout-Pout FishCheck out a copy from the library!

The program begins at 10:30 a.m. No registration is required, and siblings (younger or older) are welcome. You may bring your own copy of the book to be signed if you like. For more information, contact Heather Sturm.

Book Group Open House

On-line survey available starting Saturday.

Do you enjoy reading the library's Book of the Month? Maybe you don't attend book group meetings or haven't signed up for GoodReads, and wonder how those books are selected? Here's how!

All day on Saturday you'll be able to browse a variety of books recommended by fellow readers for future Book of the Month picks. Sip a cup of coffee while you wander, then vote for your favorites. The top 4 or 5 will get worked into the reading schedule for 2010 (the Book Discussion Group will make the final decision on the list).

Can't be here? That's OK - watch your email inbox for an invitation to vote on-line.
