best membership plugin

Hi All,

Wondering in your experience which is the best membership plugin?

It will be sent to previous buying customers who have opted to receive information from us, therefore does not require a double opt-in confirmation.

Does require a full profile completion to gain access i.e. name, address, number, etc.

A membership plugin or a mailing list plugin? Or a mailing list service?

I have looked at a number of membership plugins and generally prefer s2member.
The basic framework is free which includes Paypal integration adn allows up
to 4 paid levels but infinite capabilities. The Pro version is not that
expensive anyway. You can set levels as non-paying if you want.

Another one to look at is Your Members but that wraps a [private]..[/private]
round your posts which is a pain if you decide to change or deactivate it.

We've found the Members plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/members/ easiest for controlling access to content. Then use something like a Gravity Form to handle the registration signup form and payment via PayPal if required.

Spoke to the MD and he wants us to do this on the main site, so we will be building the membership from scratch (non-wordpress based)

The basic user (subscriber) is non-paying and there are 4 levels 'above' that.
you can do make them non-paying too by a simple coding change but I no longer
have the routine in my tree as I decided that there was no need for any
membership roles in what I was doing. There is quite a helpful community.
