Hi Mwuggers,

I was the one who suggested the idea of a WordPress workshop/help service from 5-7pm each month before MWUG. I work from FlyThe.Coop, a co-working and collaboration space in the 1st floor of the MadLab building: www.flythe.coop.

So I'm around from the end of my work day, 5pm, to the start of MWUG, 7pm, and I thought that it would be a good time to offer free help and advice to charities/community groups/individuals who use WordPress to come and get free help. It's straight after work and we're in the City Centre so it could potentially be quite easy for people to pop along to ask for help. And of course they could stay for MWUG if they wanted.

My only concern is about how this help workshop/advice surgery will be advertised to such charities and community groups and individuals who use WordPress. I suppose it could be advertised on some of the big Manchester focussed blogs, but I wouldn't know how to find out which 3rd sector organisations use WordPress, or would like to.

Any ideas?

Ben

Hi
a good idea - I could certainly help with advertising this etc. as its
part of the work we're doing with MDDA anyway.
Let me get back to you all as I'm trying to coordinate this with a
number of other activities at present - also there is a linkage with
the Netsquared group (community based IT people) which is also meeting
at Madlab.

Hi All,

I am work with few charitable organisations, some are using wordpress
and others are not.

Like Ben I am also interested in supporting local charities and
organisations be it wordpress or other general IT issues including
email and hosting services. Unlike others I don't work in city centre
but I am happy with the short commute to MadLab.

Kind Regards,
Azizur Rahman

Hi
I've spoken to GMCVO already - and will be speaking with VAM - so will get back to everyone when I've got something specific to say - but many thanks for people's willingness to help.

Hi Ben
as you were the person who came up with this idea first I just wanted to drop you an email as well to say I hope you might manage to make the 17th Feb "drop in" for the voluntary sector - I'm happy for us to collect names/contacts for any groups who would like to get some advice before a MWUG meeting if that would be helpful - and obviously be great if you were able to spend an hour or two on the day.

Best
Adrian

Hey Ben
that's great - we're running this one as a trial and we'll then maybe look to do 2 or 3 a year, definitely Sept/Oct and Feb/Mar, but possibly late May/early June as well.

Many thanks
Adrian
