Hi everyone,

I have a strange thing going on one of my client's websites. He's uploading mp3 files, but every time he does this, he gets an error message - The uploaded file is not a valid photo extension. It definitely does have mp3 at the end.

I've tried it myself, and it works fine. The file gets uploaded as an MP3 file. So I don't know what's going on and I can't test it. I've Googled that error message and I can't see anything about it.
And by the way, he tried it without the copyright symbol in and he got the same error message.

Any ideas as to what could be happening here?

Different browsers can give different mime types so it could be that. That error string doesn't seem to be from WP so I'd have a look at which theme / plugin is generating it then look at what functions might reject an mp3 file type. It could also be the PHP header is setting an incorrect mime type.

Hope this helps,

Daniel.

Two things: Just because a file has a '.mp3' extension doesn't actually mean it is an mp3 file.
Secondly, the error message says "not a valid photo extension". Is this a plugin or theme that is expecting an image file to be uploaded? (I'm guessing theme or plugin as that's not a standard WordPress message: WP mentions 'not a valid image', but never says 'not a valid photo').

Best regards,

Mike

Thanks Mike and Daniel,

The weird thing is that, although my client is getting this issue, I am
not. He forwarded the MP3s via email or WeTransfer and I was able to upload
the files without any issues.
The files are definitely MP3 files. And it can't be a plugin or theme,
because I am able to upload without any issues. The only difference is that
he is an editor and I am an admin. Also, he could be using a different
browser to me.
