Hey all,

Glad that we've managed to get NDM underway just curious to see how
everyone is getting along with playing with it. I haven't had a chance
yet but plan to get stuck in at some stage this weekend.

I've not had a play at all yet. I'm working a little bit on my MadLab android app.

I'm out this weekend but I'll take a look sometime next week.

Hey folks,

I had a mess about on the Project Summary page..just to flesh it out a
bit more. Please have a look and correct/add further information. I
was thinking of mapping out the processes (GDocs or bubbl.us) so we
know what a possible structure would be like but that'll be for
another day.

By the way, announcement on App Inventor for Android (http://
appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/). Not public yet but I've signed up
hoping that I'll get in.

I saw the summary page and I think the android app inventor looks really good. I'm going to have a play with the project later in the week. I'm having too much fun with android at the minute.

I've added some code to ndm_thing.py

It now checks to see if the user in in the DB and if not it adds them. It then checks to sere if the thing is already in the datastore and if not it adds it. At the minute it just adds it with some default values and doesn't ask the user for input but when I figure out how to do that I'll add it. I might do that sometime today.

After that's done all that needs to be done for a basic version to work is the annotation adding and display. Then we'll have a very basic version of NDM :)

I'm hoping to have a play this weekend, with my son Joseph. Mostly on
the backend. As far as AppInventor, I've thrown my 2p into the ring in
the GTUG-Managers group to see if we can get early access onto the
trial, so we can have a look at it in the next meet up. Let's wait and
see.

cheers

App inventor looks good but u can see lots of poorly designed apps being produced from it. There's also no way to publish to the market which leads ne to believe its only intended to be used as a teaching aid.

Well have to wait and see.

One thing I've had to add to the data structure to make things work:

When the user generates a new code (via the /ndm/generate/new/ page I've added) it now inserts the unique bit of the URL into the "thing" table of the data store. It also marks the thing as "unassigned". I had to do this because otherwise someone could generate a QR Code and print it out. Then another user might come along and generate the same code and use it before them. Meaning when the first user scans his barcode, he will be taken to the page for a book which he doesn't have access to, rendering the code he generated useless.

Hopefully you understand my horrible code and it isn't too hard to see what I've done. Thought I should explain it here anyway so people know.

I think I'm going to stop now before I get carried away and add all the features ;-)
