Quick update the school us renovating 3 classrooms over the next couple of months so the hall is being used as a temporary classroom. One end is set up as a class with desks etc so we need to be careful we don't shift anything around. not sure on how long it will last they haven't really told us parents anything

Yet another experiment that failed overseas that the MOE has decided NZ has to try and fail as well

Given that I was in an open plan classroom at Terrance End school in the mid 70's and it was bloody awful (my grades were suffering in that place), I would have thought this idea would have been tossed out a long time ago.

Tried at Winchester primary for the last year and the parents & teachers don't like much it either - suits a small bunch of kids but most don't cope with the chaos. Kids like structure.
Stop sending teachers who don't actually teach to overseas conferences...?

I understand the pedagogy behind the move but in river dales case the change was thrust at parents with little warning and there are no contingencies in place for those kids whose learning style doesn't suit the new system.  The shift to all students from year 4 onward also requiring tablets was part of the shift.  One of the issues the school also faces is they have a lot of young teachers who haven't yet developed the authority to make kids behave in large classrooms.  That being said my first class at primary school in the 1970s had 60 kids in it

As Hamish pointed out though, this has been tried and found wanting already. It's another example of the feminisation of education in NZ unfortunately, boys in particular struggle with this kind of approach.
As for tablets it's a red herring, most kids already have access and don't need to have removed the ability to actually write, and most schools rely on an existing teacher with some IT interest to keep it running - usually ok but only a step away from digital chaos.

Key word is temporary. Everyone relax. :)

It is annoying not to know how long everything is going to take, but that may be a "you'll know when we know" situation.

The big issue here is actually Panzerschrek which is not that far away. We need to set a deadline to resolve the issue with the school so alternative arrangements can be made if required.

Yes Jeff  I agree,   I raised that very issue with Evan this am. Evan and Tom are looking into it.

This is in hand. The area does not look difficult o
To move and put back together. Come along to next Tuesday and look. I will be talking to the school tomorrow or Thursday to discuss options now we know what is there.

Hi Jeff, had a look at it tonight with Tom and we think we can work around it with some help from the school, Tom is going to talk to them tomorrow and see what they can do for the holidays in the way of clearing it a bit - it wasn't as bad as we all assumed.

Hi,
Just spent time with the school and they are happy with our proposal to move classes and then reset back after weekend. So photos will be useful ☺️

We should seriously consider doing all our cooking outdoors this year as the school has new smoke detectors that are super sensitive and a call out from a setting off will cost $1100
Ouch......

Suggest bbq outside cook and then into pie warmer. Do we need a second pie warmer?
