Hey Guys,
Can't we look for people who really changed the world, the innovators, the thinkers, those things that we use on a day-to-day basis, things that have touched million hearts. Can't we go with some one more vibrant and who made a great contribution to the world?
So here are a few suggestions:
Mark Zuckerberg ~ Facebook
Chad Hurley ~ Youtube
Blake Ross and David Hyatt ~ Mozilla
Matt Wullenweg ~ Wordpress
Fredrik Neij ~ Pirate Bay
Pete Cashmore ~ Mashable

And if we are looking for Indians,
Murugavel Janakiraman ~ BharatMatrimony.com
Vijay Shekhar Sharma ~ One97
Nalin Khanduri ~ Great Indian Outdoors
Saloni Malhotra ~  desicrew Solutions
Suhas Gopinath ~ Globals Inc (youngest Indian Entrepreneur)

Ekta Kapoor had money in her Kitty. Papa ke paise.
In any case, am with whatever the group goes with.
Just a thought!

These are all Web startups, and even though I consider myself a diligent netizen, I don't think we should go for such run-of-the-mill examples. And the Indians you mentioned haven't really changed the world :P. However, I think our selection as of now, JRD Tata, does have the qualities you mention. Anyway, you and Upasna mailed almost at the same time so I think you didn't see it.

Further comments andozz.

As I said earlier, I'll go with the group on anything they decide. Even if the "Cliche" factor bugs me. And do read about the Indians, otherwise.

and Torka, FYI: JRD Tata wasn't the founder of Tata Group, he started working with them, then came the diversification plan.  :P
Jamsetji Tata was the mastermind behind the show, and added to that, they belonged to the Business families. Added to that, the Macro-Environment at that time was totally different from what we see today.
Again, just stating facts.

Think of today, think of what you can do, think of inspirations. I just needed a reason behind the selection, nothing more.

~Action should follow reasons, not otherwise.

frnds we went through this exercise of choosing an entrepreneur for a long time and a consensus was reached on JRD Tata
Our thought process was as follows.
We wanted to choose an entrepreneur who not only established a big business empire but also touched millions of hearts. JRD fit the bill because not only he impacted millions but also made his contribution in nation building
For eg; after Independence he renamed his companies airlines as Indian airlines (because we didnt had a national carrier then) and later when govt wanted to nationalise it he williingly gave it away.
he established Asia's first Cancer hospital in bombay. he inherited 14 companies and had 95 when he stepped down and this was during the british and the license raj. He was also the creator of first software co in India
these are just a few examples of his work

Even I think JRD TATA  would be cliched!! Warren Buffet or Richard Branson would be good. But i still do not understand why we went away from our original choice of Ekta Kapoor. I think that would be a different choice and her style of business can actually be presented as a good case.

We had never finalized on Ekta Kapoor, it was one of the choices and we did a voting amongst ourselves and JRD was preferred over Ekta.

My vote is still for Ekta!!
But if majority of the group prefer JRD Tata, then lets go with him!!! :)

Anchal : JRD Tata
Ajay : Richard Branson/ Warren Buffett

Rest please indicate your opinion and lets pick up the one with max votes

Can everyone please suggest "one" final name.

I think Richard Branson should be our answer because of currently getting two votes and getting a tentative one from Joydeep: "Even I think JRD TATA would be cliched!! Warren Buffet or Richard Branson would be good".
So does anyone think that this is not right idea; please come forward with a good logic so that we can have a final name.

IMO we should choose an Indian Entrepreneur, with whom there is a greater connect and more learning. There is a vast difference in the ways a business would be conducted in India compared to the UK. Though Branson might be "cool" but I think there would be lesser inspiration. Moreover, since we have already submitted JRD lets stick to it otherwise we can discuss it forever. I hope this a good logic.

Lets now focus on ideas to make this the best presentation.
