Been reading for several months and I'm ready to get started on this
hobby. Problem is that I live in Montana and my basement can get down to
40F in the winter. There are problems with these heated bands that go
around the container. They are not for continuous duty and they are not
for use on glass. I came up with a few inventions for temp control. I
don't know if they will work or cause unforeseeable problems. I would
appreciate comments.

CHEST FREEZER - An old dead chest freezer with a small ceramic blower
heater. Would hold about 6 containers 5-6 gal each.

WATER BATH - Set the fermenter or carboy in a small trash can. Fill the
can with enough water to cover 2/3 of the fermenter/carboy. Put a fish
tank heater in the water. May be a problem if the water is not circulating.

SUBMERSIBLE HEATER - Why not just insert the fish tank heater into the
fermenter or carboy? They are made to be submersible and they hold a
precise temp.
