Former midfielder Nicky Butt played a key role in Manchester United's success under Sir Alex.
In a recent exchange with The Athletic, former midfielder Nicky Butt spoke up about the reason why he left Old Trafford . The legend of Manchester United shared (quoted by Onefootball):
"When I feel down in my role or job, I'm a different person. I become irritable, unhappy. I blame everyone around me. The same goes for people. me as a player. When I started having that feeling, I needed to get out of it."
“As a player, I see people that I think I'm better at - in fact, I know they're better than me, get to play more games and that makes me miserable. I am not satisfied with my training, I will go home sad. It was time for me to leave Man United as a player, and that's why I spoke to the manager at the time."
In January 2004, Butt filed a transfer request, but it was not until the summer that he could leave Old Trafford to move to Newcastle United.
