Hello madhu,

 We spoke last week regarding making a documentay for samvedana. you wanted some details on our organisation, which is as follows.

we were introduced through jayeshbhai at vandana's residence last year.I really wish we could do this together as samvedana is about genuine and meaningful work and now with the increased no of children and initiatives, we need to reach out for partnerships to sustain the same. I beleive a good documentary would support and push our grassroot work.

 

We introduce ourselves as a nonprofit organization working for the

 Integrated development of slums with a focus on education and health of socially and economically deprived children.

 

INITIATED WORK

 

Since January 2002, under the banner of Samvedana this work was initiated with a focus on children & education.

 

 In a small rented place in the middle of the community itself, we started with a team of a handful but committed volunteers & teachers. We had distributed classes in the morning & evening batches, catering to 30 children.

Looking at the gravity of the work required to be done to bring them to some desired level in education and realizing a need for more formal environment we made vigorous follow-ups & got permission to use the municipal school premise of the same area.

VISION:

·         To support the social growth of the less privileged slum children by providing good educational opportunities

·         To uplift their whole environment by various welfare programmes, outdoors exposures & event celebrations.

·         To add value to the schooling of these children at the Municipal schools in the city.

 

PRESENTLY,

 

About Samvedana:

We are a registered charitable institution exempted under section 80 G;

 

Currently our main project is at two Municipal Schools in Ahmedabad,

Gujarat. We run 75 Aanganwadi’s around the western periphery of Ahmedabad. SAMVEDANA is committed to giving meaning and purpose to the life of the underprivileged children by providing them quality education through the Schools run by us. Along with academics, we have initiated steps for grooming the life of these children. Samvedana is committed to giving meaning and purpose to the life of the underprivileged children and is determined to make efforts to realize this dream which eventually works towards modifying lives and environments.

Our different initiatives are:

Akshara:  a supplementary education centre for primary education. Education here means teaching with  compassion through our learning centre at vadaj with library,computer, audiovisual room and play area.

Gyaan : Higher education for students from slum areas from grade 8 to12.

Eklavya : Eklavya is about sponsoring deserving students for higher education. We have 50 students availing higher education through this project.

It is about Education adoption to private schools for higher education.

 

·         Sponsors slum  children to private schools Based on the samvedana counseling and academic reports (50 students in 4 different schools and 2 colleges)

·         Meeting with the fees of schools and the education material involved(books, school uniform, bag )

·         Meetings with respective school teachers every term or as and when required.

·         Daily, Supporting them with tuition classes for academics as well as computer education

·         Daily nutrition during tuition class

·         Mentoring them through monthly meetings

·         Counseling with their parents on monthly basis

·         Psychological and career counseling every term

Baalghar: we run 75 aanganwadi centres.this is for the infants, pregnant and lactating mothers and the focus of this project is preprimary education and nutrition.

Sakhi: its our counselling team. all about reaching out, community visits and being an extended family to the child.

 Mitra: its an inclusion initiative bridging the gap between the privileged and the underprivileged. Many college students, corporate employees and professionals volunteer through this project. we celebrate festivals, do various workshops round the year through the mitr project.
