Ciao Cesare !
Dear Ubuntu mame package maintainer
I don't know if you knew we existed, so I am taking the first step. We
have a debian package right now in debian in the experimental archive.
AFAIK when our package reaches testing, it might then automatically land
up in Ubuntu during the Ubuntu-Debian sync.
Right now I am not talking ( yet :) about unified package maintainance
but some friendly collaboration is always nice !
Some things we picked up from you:
* the uscan file
* skeleton from debian/rules
Some things you might find interesting in our package:
* we don't do make a mame-common package as it is useless now
* we have a different way of generating the initial mame.ini
Instead of installing a file provided in the package maintainer, we
generate one with mame -createconfig, and then correct the paths with a
group of sed calls. Everything is done in mame.postinst
cf
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-games/mame.git;a=blob_plain;f=debian/mame.postinst;hb=HEAD
Also we aim to build multi arch, with a powerpc fix already in debian/rules.
It would be also nice to check together for each new mame release the
debian/copyright file as doing this by hand is tedious for a 15 Mb
source package. AFAIK the update from 0.140 to mame 0.141
changed/created around 180 files ...
There is a package of Gnome Video Arcade also on the way made by Jordi
Mallach which will bring the nicest Mame front end to the .deb format.
Greetings from Vienna
Manu
