Did You Know?
That a number of GreenThumb gardens commemorate amazing women that came together to lead in preserving and revitalizing their neighborhoods? There's Hattie Carthan Community Garden in Brooklyn, Liz Christy Garden in Manhattan, and Riverside Valley Community Garden in Manhattan will soon be renamed to Jenny's Garden to honor Jenny Benitez, one of the founders of the garden. As we remember amazing garden activists like these women, GreenThumb and the NYC Department of Records and Information Services (DORIS), remind you that you can take part in WomensActivism.NYC to create a permanent New York City archive listing women from around the globe who have made a difference through their activism and, in turn, inspire activism today.

Highlight of the Month:
Working With Youth in the Garden
Thursday, December 5, Manhattan
5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
Are you interested in offering young people opportunities to either volunteer or work regularly in the garden? Join us for an in-depth discussion about ways you can host youth at your site. Several programs, including the Summer Youth Employment Program (with the NYC Dept. of Youth and Community Development) and GreenThumb's Youth Leadership Council program, allow for youth to be able to get into the garden and experience it firsthand either as volunteers or as employees. This workshop will cover some best practices for hosting youth in gardens and also provide some clear guidelines for specifically working in GreenThumb gardens with youth.
Visit our event listing on Eventbrite to RSVP.
