Treasurer’s Report was given by Patty Beres. The general fund contains
$13,055.66 and the special events fund contains $1,550.27 (before the
En Plein Air income and the Gateway of Chaos expenses and income). The
general fund includes the $10,000 welcome center grant funds plus
approximately $1,500.00 to be used for the new bike loop. Mindee
Sommerla gave a check for $740 from the 2010 Reunion committee to
cover the cost of the concrete in the nodes for the bike racks. Bev
Dashner made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report, Mindee
Sommerla seconded, all approved.
Spencer Terry reported on the Gateway of Chaos event which brought in
$706.00 this weekend. There were 177 people who attended opening
night. There were 79 cans of food donated towards West Central
Community Action. Forty-five volunteers are working in the haunt.
Looking at long-term plans, Terry introduced Kevin Holben who is
shadowing the job Spencer has as haunt director and will be able to
step into that position next year if it is decided to host the haunted
house in 2011.
Cheryl Jones reported on En Plein Air 2010. Due to bad weather, the
event will barely break even. There was a discussion about when/if to
have it again next year. Side Street Styles won the building
decorating contest, Pondibilities received second. They were each
awarded prizes of large pizzas from Caseys.
Pres. Means discussed membership for 2011. Michelle Pardew, Lori Hunt,
and Mindee Sommerla were appointed to work on a membership drive. They
will also be responsible for organizing ribbon cutting ceremonies for
new businesses in the community. The committee will report to
membership chairperson, Gary Jones.
Patty Beres will chair the Festival of Trees on December 4. Plans to
date include “breakfast with Santa”. The committee to work on that
event will be Darren Bartley, Bonnie Pierce, and Joyce Hall. The
committee to work on the Holiday Market Fair consists of Patty Beres,
Mindy Sommerla, and volunteer Richelle Walter. Advertising budget was
set at $300. The committee responsible for advertising will be Gary
J., Bev D., Stacy M., and Spencer T.
There will be a Holiday tree-lighting in Heritage Park again. Bonnie &
Greg Pierce and Bill Johns will procure a donated tree. The tree
lighting and lantern launch will take place the weekend before
Festival of Trees.
Spencer Terry gave a consultant overview. He has written two grants;
completed a membership plan; worked with the youth and functioned as
event coordinator for Maui in Malvern and Gateway of Chaos; completed
PR work by writing articles and advertising; completed the MABA
strategic plan. All of the assigned duties (except for the final GOC
activities have been completed according to the contract. He has met
all of his obligations within 6 months. His resignation will become
effective November 1, 2010.
Stacy M. brought up a concern from the city council regarding the
$4,000.00 donation to MABA to be used for the consultant/executive
director position. The council feels there is a conflict of interest
since Terry is now a city council member although he was not the
consultant at the time of the council vote in which Spencer
participated. MABA will approach the city council with another project
for which the funds could be used.
Michelle Pardew made a request for volunteers from MABA to help with a
Halloween Bash costume ball that will raise funds for a skate park.
The event will be October 23 at the Community Building. Two MABA
members volunteered to assist.
Joyce Hall noted that the fundraiser for the donated bicycle (valued
at $500) from Extreme Wheels is now complete. The winner of the
bicycle is Pastor Carl Phillips.
Regarding bike rack security Bev Dashner made a motion to purchase the
bolts and tool to secure the racks so that they cannot be loosened or
removed. Michelle Pardew seconded, all approved. The bike loop
painting project will be completed next Saturday, October 9, from 9 to
noon.
UPDATES: Reminder that MABA will assist with the Senior Center Pancake
breakfast fundraiser on January 29.
The tram engines are now located at the city shed. Greg J. and Greg P.
will check on the cost to fix them. Greg & Bonnie P. will take care of
securing the tram with plastic to prevent damage while in storage.
Patty B. motioned to purchase plastic for that purpose. Darren B.
seconded, all approved.
Gary Jones reported that the Park Board is ready to install several
improvements at Boehner Pond area including electric hookups by spring
and a walking trail.
Bonnie P. gave a SWINT update and stated that we will need ideas to
improve the Trace Trail.
Bev Dashner gave an update regarding the possibility of a Malvern
Betterment Foundation.
Stacy reported after a conversation with Jay Burdic that Kohl’s
Pharmacy still wants open a pharmacy in Malvern, however they wish to
rent, not own a building.
Meeting adjourned at 6:45 PM
