MinDee reported on progress of the July 2 Independence Day celebration. The planning committee has met and presented the following activities for the day: Parade, pot luck dinner at Boehner Pond; family and friends softball game(s) at Boehner Park; watermelon feed; fishing contest; DJ music at Fairview Park; sno-cones & lemonade; and a large fireworks display. Friends of the Library will sponsor Race the Trace 5K run at 8 AM that morning. Discussion centered on accomplishing these events and whether to charge a fee or ask for donations for viewing the fireworks. Kohll’s Pharmacy plans to have their grand opening on July 2 and MABA will request a possible co-sponsorship with them to defray the cost of fireworks. Bev will work on donation buckets to be placed at the businesses around town. MinDee will refine a workable budget and estimate how many volunteers will be needed. The fireworks contract will be with J&M Displays. Some questions will need to be addressed regarding cancellation policies before signing the contract.
Bonnie P. reported on the carpet for the Welcome Center which will be purchased from Galaska’s in Bellevue, NE. The cost including installation will be approximately $1,300. This will be installed as soon as the painting is completed. Bonnie also stated that there will need to be an electrician work on the lighting for the bathrooms.

After a report from Bev D. about the Western Iowa Tourism meeting that was held in Glenwood recently MinDee S. made a motion that MABA purchase a $150 membership to take advantage of the publicity and contacts it would offer. All approved the motion.
The new website that was discussed at the last meeting will not be built by MinDee’s brother. However, Spencer T. suggested that Traven Hetzel could look at it and see if he could build it for $500 or less.
There was a short discussion about Donor Perfect for membership and fundraising. Cost for the software is $30 per month. In the mean time, MinDee made a motion to have the membership checks sent to her so she can keep track of current members. Checks will then be sent to the treasurer for deposit.
Judy Scott from the Fairview Country Club reported on the grass greens project this year. The course will stay open all year long during construction and will be completed by fall. There will be a pond and water feature plus new bunkers. The Country Club is asking MABA’s help with fund raising. There will be a best ball tournament July 2 during the Independence Day festivities. MABA will help publicize the tournament. It was suggested that there be a DJ and food at the golf course during the July 2 celebration as a fundraiser.

Spencer T. reported things are going very well with the GOC plans and new marketing plan. There are 8 people on the haunt leadership team which will spread the workload and create more interest. Fifteen volunteers will be needed for every night the haunt is open. The goal of raising $2,000 to fund GOC is 60% complete. GOC will be the first haunt in the area to create a fast pass for people who are willing to pay $15 per ticket to be able to get in ahead of the regular $7.00 passes. There is an architect working on permits and inspections for fire codes, etc.
Local Updates: Although the city received funding from a grant to improve Boehner Pond, the camping spaces will not be completed in time for RAGBRAI. The Fair Board is getting camping spaces ready which will be complete by July, in time for the Independence Day celebration.
Spencer reported that repainting the blue line and symbols for the bike loop would cost $50-$75 per gallon. If MABA purchases the paint, Spencer will ask if the city workers would be allowed to paint the lines.
Patty B. made a motion to adjourn at 6:00 PM.
