Our Amber Ale challenge was a success with 7 people bringing their beers made from the same ingredients. They were all very unique but similar and it just goes to show the impact that the brewer has on the final ingredient. We didn't really pick a winner, but they were all pretty good.
We decided (I think) that our next "throwdown" will be to brew a SMASH beer! A SMASH beer is a Single Malt and Single Hop beer. Your beer has to consist of only one grain (or style of extract for extract brewers) and one kind of hop. You can use as much of each ingredient as you want! from a light lager to an IPA. This is not a style of beer but more like a restriction on ingredients. Feel free to brew anything you want but make it good. I guess we will probably judge more on Drinkability, imagination, cleanliness and the like as opposed to judging on the style a particular style you might have been going for. This should be another fun exercise, much like the American Amber Ale was. This will be for October's meeting, which falls on Oct 5th.
As for August, we will be drinking Pilsner. I will try to get together a good sampling of Czech Pils, German Pils and maybe a CAP if I can find one.
Again, we forgot to assign a style for September, so I'm gong to throw Kolsh out there. Anybody interested? If anybody is brewing something special that will be ready around that time and want to change the September style, just let me know. I prefer the Democratic approach to the club, I just forget to take nominations after all that good home brew.
Below is some Info on the Brew Ha Ha in David city. Looks like there is a change of venue and they are now taking wine makers too, so czech it out!
Cheers!

Hey guys!!
It's official. We have set the date for the 5th Annual David City Brew Ha Ha for October 13, 2012. There are going to be quite a few changes this year! One of them being the location. Because we have grown (thanks to you guys), we are running out of room for all of our brewers, auction items, etc. So, we are moving the Brew Ha Ha from the Opera House to the Butler County Fairgrounds. Although it was a cool place to have the Brew Ha Ha and it was great exposure for the Opera House, our goal is grow bigger every year. It is, after all, a fundraising event. The more money we bring in the better!! Another change this year will be the addition of homemade wine. We want to invite brewers of wine into our event and open it up to appeal to more
people. I know there are several beer brewers who also brew wine and we invite you to bring both if you wish or just the one if you'd rather. We know there are a few wine brewers in the area that are extremely interested in our event, and if you know any brewers who'd like to bring their wine, send them my e-mail and encourage them to contact me!!! Lastly, we will be including a live auction this year (if we can get some great items). We'd like to have a handful of big items that are fun and would attract some people so we can use them in our advertising. If you know of anyone that would like to contribute to our event in that regard (free tickets, rooms at a timeshare,....a car, whatever) let me know!! Seriously, though, if you have friends that are interested in the event and would like to help in some way, please give them my contact information. I'd love to tell them about the event itself and the Opera House.
If you are not going to be able to attend this year, please let me know so that I can keep the rest of the group up-to-date on the goings on of the brewers. I'll send more details, such as time/place to set up, as we develop the event. I know some of you have been brewing up a storm and have developed some great beers. Brew them again if you'd like or try a new one and share it! I'll hand out more details on judging situation as well, as that portion of the event becomes more clear.
If you are planning on attending, please send me a quick reply so I can get an early count as to how many brewers will be there. Thanks!
We are very excited to plan for another year, and I know it will be great fun (thanks to you guys). We are so grateful for all you contribute. You guys are really what makes this event so great. You always
bring awesome beers and everyone who comes to the Brew Ha Ha has nothing but great things to say about you. Hope you are all having a good summer and stay cool!!!
Cheers!!
