Here is a list of the current members of associations and groups that are using Mallacoota Recovers to coordinate their recovery efforts;
CHIRF (Community Health Infrastructure & Resilience Foundation)
Mallacoota Sub-Branch of the RSL
Mallacoota Women's Auxiliary
Mallacoota Opportunity Shops
Mallacoota Halls & Rec Committee (Relief Centre)
Mallacoota Wilderness & Business Tourism Association
3MGB Community Radio
The Sanctuary (Mallacoota Youth)
Mallacoota Boardriders
U3A Mallacoota & District
Mallacoota Pony Club
This is an awesome, diverse group that represents a broad range of the Mallacoota community. Although these groups may have differing opinions and ideas the fact that they are willing to come together, listen to each other and work towards the common goal of making Mallacoota recover so that it is better than it has ever been is an inspiration.
As you know Lyn Harwood and her team have been working hard to try and put together the structure for us to form a community recovery committee. The email below outlines their latest efforts;
To Representatives of Organisations and Interested Individuals,
As you know, at the end of the meeting held on January 15th at the School Library, our working group promised to come back to you with a more detailed structure for a community based process to lead the recovery of Mallacoota after the fires.
Since that January agreement many meetings and workshops have been held. One small group looked at the constitution/purpose and organisation, another small group workshopped a vision and objectives. And many more gatherings just kept talking. We would now like to present this SUGGESTED structure to you. This meeting will be held on Monday, 3rd February, at 5.00pm in the Mudbrick building. I hope you can attend. The next step in the process will be to take our agreed suggestion to an open community meeting, at a date to be decided.
Thanks for all your support so far.
Sincerely, Lyn Harwood, Gail Sands, Leo Op Den Brouw, Don Ashby, Tracey Joiner, Max Elliott, Marie Connellan, Leonie Daws, Jenny Lloyd, Tricia Hiley, Etienne Van De Merwe, Steven Pascoe, Stuart Johnston, Ashlee Johnston & Airly Embleton-Mew
This will be a great opportunity to listen to what the team has come up with. I’m sure there will be many questions asked and ideas offered. Hopefully we can agree on the structure and then move ahead with the election of a committee that is representative of the whole community.
