Hi Guys,
Here are the minutes of the GBM held on Friday. I have incorporated all the points that were raised during the meeting and hope everyone agrees to these issues. Some of them are really challenging but we can make it possible with our efforts put together. Obviously the 4 or 5 of us in SFC won't be able to realize these issues unless and until we get the support of you all. The important issues were;
1) We need proper equipment for the PHONETIC LAB (as Somnath put it: "we shouldn't call it a lab" without any equipment), we need to work for this because not everyone of us is capable to buy on our own & in that case the QUALITY of our research suffers...
2) "Introduction to Linguistics" course offered to the 1st Sem students has to be designed properly this time for the students were dissatisfied with this course last time; it shouldn't be off the track even if being taught by more than one...
3) "Introduction to Computational Linguistics" should be offered in our own centre for our students... some other things are also there as we suggested a name for this course who can handle it better.....
4) We made a detailed list of books and submitted; need further response for that....
5) We need a FAN for the teachers in Room No. 101.....
6) We want REGULAR SFC MEETINGS (at least once a month) to bring out the problems of the centre... WE WANT THEM TO LISTEN TO US.....
7) Faculty Evaluation (Feedback) Sheets should be there in the last month of a Semester so that the students can give their responses about all the faculties; and it would consequently improve the QUALITY OF TEACHING in our department...
8) Tutorial Classes should be properly designed every semester, I hate when SFC members have to fight unnecessarily every time saying that " REMEDIAL CLASSES, TUT CLASSES".... If it's needed in some of the courses, it should be designed beforehand so that SFC can do some other Progressive Works mentioned below....
9) Students expressed their interest in having OUR OWN JOURNAL, it's a practice in other universities (obviously not all)... Having our own journal & publication would be a progress of the department, and we can prevail our own researches... it would also motivate students for the good quality of research....
10) It's also demanded to start "Synopsis/Proposal defense" system for the researchers, it would help them as well as the department in getting better results and productions
11) We want a database record and collection of all the Dissertations/Thesis written & submitted here so that it can be used properly for future guidance and references. Most of them are out of our reach.....
