Hello there! I am a graduate seeking admission into a linguistics or English Masters programme and was wondering if the experienced minds here would care to help?

I find myself torn between an MA English from EFLU and MA Linguistics from JNU. We hear so much about JNU and so little about EFLU on the outside that it is a hard decision to makeMy question is- Is the department at JNU for linguistcs utterly devoid of any background in Literature? I am attached the subject and changing disciplines is making me super nervous.
Since there is no information out there about EFLU as such(apart from a few polite articles), what do those who migrated to JNU from there think? Is choosing EFLU over JNU totally nuts, or is EFLU's integrated Masters programme as exciting as it sounds? What about JNU linguistics? The faculty sounds awe-inspiring, is this field too erm, structuralist for people with a background in Culture Studies, Lit crit etc?

I understand that this group hasn't been visited in a while, would be awesome to hear back from you guys.
Cheers!
M

 Dear M,

No, Centre for Linguistics in JNU is not devoid of people who are from literature backgrounds. and for you, changing a discipline should come from what you want to pursue on a long term basis. Besides, both 'structural' and 'post-structural' courses will be offered to you if you pull up your socks high enough to enter JNU. You can always have a talk with Srishti Chauhan. she'd be your senior from EFLU who joined JNU right after her grads from there. So she can give you a fair idea about your dilemma-like two worlds.

Best
