Dear Chong Meng & F M Chen,
When Abraham Lincoln declared "the government of, by, and for the
people" , he had summed up the the experience of human being
throughout history as well as provided a solution to it. Human beings
have found the benefit of organizing themselves because the organized
society can pool in resources to serve their members better. However,
the organized society needs a governing body to handle the resources;
The governing body is after all made of people with weaknesses like
you and me. The governing bodies have from time to time, and across
everywhere in the world, become the menace to their respective people.
I think that is repeated experience throughout human history. The
assertion of "the government of, by, and for the people" is a call to
return to the purpose of why we need the government. The assertion
also implies the people needs to be a part of the government.
While I share with your observation on the incompetency of the current
government, I would like to challenge us to take up the responsibility
for producing and enabling such a government. After all, we,
collectively, have elected the government in the general elections.
Even if you as an individual had not voted them in, there are many
others, actually the majority, have voted them in. That is the
responsibility I hope we could pick up. Now, it is the time we
collectively, through democratic process, undo the collective mistake
that we have done. Asserting pressure to hasten the resignation of
Home Minister is only an attempt to correct one of those mistakes.
I would love see a change of government through democratic process;
That is still possible with PR. For those make a decision to join
political parties at the PR side, I would say that is good start. For
those not inclined for political parties, there are still many other
ways to play a part in strengthening the civil society. After all,
there will be a need for civil society to check on government, be it
BN or PR, because the menace of government has been common experience
of human history. There is no reason to believe the menace will go
away. The menace existed 2000 year ago, existed during Lincoln time,
exists now, and will still be there in the future. The realistic hope
is to use people power to check on government all the time. While
there is no point for non-sensible confrontation, I think urging
resignation as a means to express our respective desire is still very
much acceptable way of asserting the people power.

With due respects to the policitians, but not all, they enter politics more for their personal gain and glory and power. How many of them have strong personal commitment ? Just imagine the past and retired politicians how well to do they are - you think that their wealth are from their pensions and salaries? I doubt. The present warlords are so reluctant to relinguish their positions now for they will tend to loose the millions if these warlords were to kick out of Office.

I would take my bet on the new Government rather than to wait for the reform by the present Goverment - to save our next generations.

Look at the appointment of the rural poor minister( with criminal record, though committed in foreign land) , current tourism minister( having so many disputable issues left behind during her tenure as sports minister), non of the current cabinet members have raised an objection or commented in their appoinment to serve the country. That shows, no matter how honourable they are, they all committed an abetment to a weak and useless government. It clearly shows the current leader do not have trust worthy members to serve the country. This is very sad. Our current leader might be a Mr. Nice Guy, but he lack vision.

Consolidate a respectable group to engage discussion with the government is the best option. However, again, surrounding environment within the group, if not truly committed to do service to the country, will open up the temptation of mental corruption during the discussion. ( could be in the form of personal benefit, title awards, and many other forms of temptation). The group of people shall have a very strong personal commitment of honourable of credibility. No hidden agenda, except to serve the country.

We should all deploy civil methods, including Option 2 of the Action Proposal #003, to slowly but steadily bring him down. Spread your words to your friends and family. You could use this common resource when you need to ask your friend to execute the Option 2; The key is to emphasize the incompetence aspect of Syed Hamid while side-step raw emotion about him.
