Latarbelakang Lebuhraya Utara – Selatan (PLUS)

Dengan kepanjangan keseluruhan 847.7 km yang menganjur dari utara ke
selatan Semenanjung Malaysia menjadikan ianya sebuah lebuhraya yang
menghubungkan antara bandar-bandar utama di sebelah barat Semenanjung
Malaysia. Bermula dari Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah dan terhenti di Jalan
Duta, Kuala Lumpur. Kemudian dilencongkan ke Bukit Raja, Klang.
Jajaran ini dikenali dengan Lebuhraya Baru Lembah Klang. Bermula
semula di Sungai Besi dan terus menganjur ke selatan dan tamat di
Johor Bahru, Johor. Projek : Lebuhraya Utara – Selatan Syarikat
Konsesi : Projek Lebuhraya Utara – Selatan Berhad (PLUS Bhd) Tarikh
Mula Konsesi : Mei 1988 Tarikh Tamat Konsesi : Mei 2018 Tempoh Konsesi
: 30 Tahun Fakta Teknikal Panjang : 848 km Persimpangan Bertingkat :
75 buah Bil Tol Plaza : 65 buah

Terdapat beberapa ciri menarik yang ada pada Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan,
di antaranya :
Laluan dua lorong dua hala melibatkan : 1. Bukit Kayu Hitam ke Sungai
Dua 2. Juru ke Rawang 3. Seremban Utara ke Johor Bahru
Laluan tiga lorong dua hala melibatkan : 1. Sungai Besi ke Seremban
Utara 2. Lebuhraya Baru Lembah Klang hingga ke Rawang 3. Juru ke
Sungai Dua Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan mengamalkan dua sistem tol iaitu
Sistem Tol Terbuka dan Sistem Tol Tertutup
Sistem Tol Terbuka Pengguna perlu membayar tol setiap kali melintasi
pondok tol. Jajaran yang terlibat adalah : 1. Bukit Kayu Hitam – Jitra
2. Lebuhraya Persekutuan II 3. Senai – Johor Bahru 4. Skudai – Johor
Bahru

Sistem Tol Tertutup Dengan menggunakan sistem ini, pengguna lebuhraya
di kawal sepenuhnya. Jalan keluar dan masuk dari lebuhraya hanya boleh
dilakukan menerusi persimpangan bertingkat yang disediakan. Di setiap
persimpangan bertingkat yang terlibat dengan sistem ini, pengguna
perlu melintasi Pondok Tol samada untuk mengambil tiket transit
ataupun membuat pembayaran. Kemudahan-kemudahan yang disediakan di
sepanjang lebuhraya ini disediakan bagi kegunaan pengguna lebuhraya
agar mereka merasa selesa dan selamat.

Dan Rawat 2. Hentian Sebelah 3. Telefon Kecemasan 4. Perkhidmatan PLUS
RONDA Selain dari PLUS RONDA, Polis Peronda juga menjalankan rondaan
bagi tujuan penguatkuasaan dan membantu pengguna-pengguna lebuhraya.
