Please find all talks at http://skillsmatter.com/event/groovy-grails/groovy-grails-exchange-2012

Just curious is Grails still alive? How many people here using Grails in their day time job? I'm not.

Best regards,

Hi Chee Kin,

Thanks for sharing.
Grails is definitely alive. We are just starting a rather largish project and will be using the latest Grails 2.2.

Hi,

We rolled out an insurance agent portal in December 2011. We have been enhancing it since then.

Internally, my company builds a web application to manage job applications.

These applications are built with Grails.

We have also built numerous POC with Grails.

The latest Grails 2.2 has a lot of improvements.
I particularly like the async controller.

Yerp. Still working with grails here. :). I've tried grails + jquery, grails + dojo and now grails + zk... Still haven't found the best way to decoupled the UI and the backend. zk + grails + spring security doesn't seem to play very well.. anyone with any experiences?

Hi Suhaizal,

Thanks for writing.

I have no experience on zk. By the way, it will be great if you can share the way you decoupled the UI and the backend, so that experience Grails developers here may share their insights.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Best regards,
Chee Kin

Hi Suhaizal,

What is the ideal decoupling you are aiming for?

Hi Seymour, CK,
Ideal may be too much. Just looking at the best way to let the developers working on the UI and back-end to work independently but yet aiming for the same goal. More on contract-driven-development aim, as long as the developers follow the contract for the design they can work independently of each other.
So far, most my UI and back-end in grails are tightly coupled, so development and testing can be a boon. Some suggest ReST + <put JavaScript framework here>, but haven't fully tried that one yet. (too many things at hand. :-P). Now I'm working with zk through zkGrails plugin using MVVM approach. I'll see how this one turns out. :P
Any ideas, suggestions, pointers are welcome. :)

Hmm, i try to use ZK once a time ago but I find it quite clunky compared to ExtJs.
Well then again I am biased towards ExtJs.

Anyway, I found myself using angularjs and backbone lately. So far Angular.js is a pleasant use.

Never tried angular.js and backbone. But good to hear about available options and experiences...

I have tried angular js with rest from grails to build crud screens. Seems ok but may need to hack the rest functions a bit to return error messages. Also cannot get query by example to fit in .

AngularJS seems like a viable option. Looking at that as well right now. Anyone has experience authenticating through springsecurity using the ReST? Read through the docs and I know it can be done, just want to hear some experiences from the experts.. Thank you..
