KUALA LUMPUR- The Malaysian government on Friday contributed a total of US$1.05 million (Ð865,000 million) to Pakistan and Afghanistan to help victims of the recent earthquake.
Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar presented a check for US$1 million (Ð824,000 million) to Talat Munir, Pakistan’s top diplomat in Kuala Lumpur, and another for US$50,000 (Ð41,000) to Afghan Ambassador Mohammad Yunos Farman.
“We humbly acknowledge that our financial contributions will not be enough,” Syed Hamid was quoted as saying by the national news agency, Bernama. “However, we hope that they can alleviate the pain and suffering of the victims of the earthquake.”
Following the Oct. 8 South Asian quake that was believed to have killed nearly 80,000 people, Malaysia has sent three teams of aid workers with blankets, tents, food and medicine to Pakistan.
