With the help and support of our kind hearted members, we could celebrate Onam with a few deprived Ammas from different villages. It will be very difficult to handle if we arrange at different places, hence we arrange the same at a single place. Therefore, we pay conveyance to the Ammas for commuting from different places.

The enclosed message from Dr Peter is self explanatory. The relevant bills and photos have been forwarded to the sponsors. Our special thanks to Dr Peter for coordinating this activity.

We thank you for your kind approval to us, to organise the above event for more than 100 numbers of Ammas

on 21 September 2024.  Due to non-availability of Municipality owned Children's Park facility, this time the Sadya for Ammas was organised at Maam Auditorium, which was a semi- luxurious place for a charity organisation like ours. 

 

Prof (Dr) Ajay Kapoor, Vice Chancellor, Chinmaya University was the Guest who not only spoke to Ammas but also sat with them for the Onam Sadya and spent considerable time with them. 

 

As usual, students of Natyakalakshetra  presented dance items for the Ammas. After a brief meeting, Ammas were served Onam Sadya. Before they left, each one of them was given Set-Mundu,  Rs 200 cash to meet auto rickshaw charges, kit consisting of Banana chips, Sarkaravaratty, Pappad and Dhathri make Myactin medicine.

 

Our guest Prof Kapoor spoke about MFG's benevolence towards the deprived Ammas and appreciated the local Rotary who supported the cause.  He also praised the sponsor patrons of MFG. His speech was translated to Malayalam by Prof Manjula. 

 

Municipal Chairpersons (2010, 2015 and 2020) were present.  None of them spoke on the occasion. They handed over documents symbolizing the launch of the 2nd phase of the Health and Education charity scheme. An Amma and an ASHA spoke on the occasion. 27 ASHA workers  were in attendance to extend help to Ammas.

 

Mr V.V. Kuriakose,  retired Driver of Sneha Bhavan Special School was given a memento, as a token of appreciation by MFG/Ammas of the region, for having looked after the differently abled students, for more than 22 years of his service.

 

Ammas had not only a sumptuous Onam sadya but also they had quality time meeting and interacting. They  left with gratitude to MFG and sponsor patrons for remembering them every year during Onam and Vishu occasions.  We thank Mr Gopal Nairji, Founder Chair, MFG for sending Rs 10,000 from his personal savings for supporting the Ammas. 

 

Local Rotary did extend help.  Local visual media and  Malayalam print media covered the event.  Though they highlighted MFG,  focus could not be given due to their existing practice of giving importance to local agencies.

Onam is celebrated by Malayalis across the globe. I do remember that during my childhood Onam was the happiest day in our life as this was the only day we had full meals / sadya in our life - rest of the day we lived in half filled stomach due to poor financial conditions 

In this era also, there are many such people struggling for their hand-to-mouth and enjoying such festivals is a dream for them.

We have been able to identify such underprivileged people, especially elderly Ammas, from different villages, to give them happiness atleast for a day. We not only organise an elaborate Sadya, but give them Onappudava etc also. We have been able to do this with kind hearted sponsors from across the world.

During this Onam also, we propose to plan a celebration with around 100 such underprivileged Ammas by end of September 2024. A detailed message received from our Dr A C Peter, in this regards, is annexed.

Please do not send any money now as we need only Rs.81875 only. Please do let us know the amount of contributions you would like to make for this noble cause. If anyone would like to sponsor the setmundu for the Ammas, you can even make the payment directly to the manufacturer against their bill

Greetings to you!

 

On this day the 17^th August 2024, observance of Farmer’s Day, let us convey our greetings to Farmers and our gratitude to them! This is the start of the Kerala calendar Chingam 1, year 1200, New Year. Within one month, precisely on 15^th September, Onam day will arrive.

 

The State Government of Kerala has advised against affluent celebration during special occasions in August due to tragic circumstances we are facing in Wynand. Due to the tragedy and sufferings of so many people, we have been thinking of not organising the “Onam with Ammas” event this year.  However, the Ammas have started asking about the program and persuading us to arrange Onam Sadya, Onam Set Mundu, conveyance cash and kits for them, as usual, in the most austerity manner. 

 

They cite reasons of their own that they have been waiting for this occasion for a year, to mingle, to interact, to come out of home, to feel dignity and honour.  Moreover, they also emotionally state that a few of the Ammas may not survive till next year Onam.   According to the senior deprived Ammas (mothers), a simple function will give them an opportunity to appreciate  essence, enjoy a meal reminiscent of the Onam Sadhya feast and carry home something meaningful kit for their daily needs.

 

We can organise the “Onam with Amma-marodoppam” (Onam with Mothers) on any day in September third week – by the time the Wynand victims will get partially rehabilitated. We assure our Patrons that we shall abide by their wishes, Govt guidelines, public perception / sentiments and   adhere to sobriety principles while holding the event.

 

There are many underprivileged, aged, uncared, lonely and sick Ammas (mothers), who cannot afford a sumptuous Onam meal. There are also unfortunate economically disadvantaged Ammas who are not under care due to absence of their dear and near ones  - they are away from their dwelling place/mother.

 

May we request for your kind approval to serve Onam Sadya, Onam Set Mundu,  Onam kit  and auto-fare (cash) to 100 Ammas in this year also, like in the past years.  Since we make arrangements for the Dance School Children to mingle with them, this MFG platform gives them comfort and consolation in times of distress and sadness. 

 

The following is the budget proposed for your kind approval:

 

1. Vishu "Set mundu"                                   Rs 35,000.00

We shall submit bills/invoices to MFG promptly after the event, as done earlier.  If any of our patron members will be around on the function in the third week of Sept 2024, kindly request them to join for Onam Sadya lunch with everyone to meet Ammas.

·         Built a home for a elderly poor couple at Vayalar Village @Rs.3 lacs

·         Provided artificial limbs to a physically challenged person. Also giving monthly allowance of Rs.2000 per month for sustenance.

·         Provided a laptop and a monetary assistance of Rs.10000 for six months to a polio affect young man who cleared his CA final.

·         With the support of Dr. Peter, Delhi, facilitated FREE heart surgery for three kids from economically disadvantaged class.

·         Provided customized Gearless Scooters to two physically challenged persons

·          Sponsoring a poor girl staying in a hut for Nursing Course
