Saving lives, building peace
You are aware that we have been arranging open heart surgeries of children upto the age of 18 years 'free of cost' to beneficiaries, who cannot afford the cost.
The 13th congenital heart diseases detection/screening medical camp for children - (zero days to 18 years) - will be held at Government Children Hospital, Bemina, Srinagar - 190018 on 24 June 2023 (Saturday), 8.30 a.m. onwards. Team of doctors from Amrita hospital, Kochi will manage screening. Selected children will undergo heart procedures, gratis.
Twelve numbers of CHD detection medical camps were organized in the past – two in Manipur (Imphal), six in J&K (Srinagar, Jammu and Udhampur), one in Kerala (Kochi), two in Patna (for Bihar/Jharkhand) and one at Allahabad (Prayagraj).
Deprived children do not have access to quality medical care and new form of treatment as they cannot afford the high cost of surgery. CHD accounts for almost 20 percent of the infant mortality all over the world. It affects 8 out of every 1000 live born infants.
More than 5000 open heart surgeries have been organised since 20 July 2005. Children from all over India and also from Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Nigeria, Zambia, El Salvador, Haiti, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Tibetan Govt-in-exile benefited from this program.
The unique characteristic of this project is that there is human touch, element of sacrifice, concern for the less privileged, social justice to the unfortunate and human welfare. Thanks to Rotary volunteers, there has been zero administrative cost for this project till now. There has also been a near zero mortality rate. While Gift of Life gives back smiles to the unfortunate children, it wipes out the misery in the family, strengthens community bondage and builds peace. Gift of Life is a “peace project” for giving a new lease of life to children born to die - beyond borders, caste, creed, region, religion, race, nationality, language, gender and colour.
If any of our members come across children with known CHD cases in North West region of India, they may be referred to the Srinagar camp. Those who are in South India, they can be referred to Amrita hospital, Kochi. CHD children in North India can go to Escorts Hospital, Delhi. We have package rate arrangement with them. While, normally, following documents are sought, but if there is difficulty, we can waive off the same on case to case basis:
(a) Ration Card (2) Aadhar Card (3) Income Proof (4) Photo and (5) Recent, legible and complete Echo report
We hope that deprived familities will benefit from this proejct.
Kind regards,
AC Peter
