The Scrabble Association of Uganda (SAU), proudly representing the best Scrabbling Nation in the entire Continent, would like to announce the dates of next year's prestigious East, Central and Southern African Championships (ECASA) edition. This is the Premier WESPA-rated tournament for 600 million Africans below the 15 degree longitude

Title of Tourney : EAST, CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

DATES : FRIDAY 3rd, April 2015 (Arrival date, Physical Registration) to MONDAY 6th, APRIL 2014

VENUE : To be announced (KAMPALA)

REGISTRATION FEE : SH 100 000 (Ugandans)

REGISTRATION FEE : $60 (VIP Visitors)

COUNTRY REGISTRATION FEE : $100 (Waived for potential debutants Team Rwanda and Team South Sudan)

GAMES : 28 GAMES (10 Sat, 10 Sun, 8 Mon)

TOURNAMENT RULES : WESPA Rules, 5 POINTS PER CHALLENGE

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR : Home-grown talent, the fire-breathing Edgar Dragon Odongkara, Overlord of TSH.

A buffet lunch shall be provided over the 3 playing days for every player as well as running tea breaks. The modified American hotel plan for the visiting VIP Internationals means Bed, Breakfast and Lunch shall be covered by the Organizing Committee during the three tournament days. The VIP Internationals shall be entitled to accommodation for a total of 4 nights.

May I stress that players will be expected to come with their clocks, tiles and boards.

Trophies will be offered from 1st to 3rd position. There will be as per tradition, a Best Team trophy as well as a trophy for best performing Lady. The prize money will go down to tenth place as follows:

Champion: US$ 1000           - UGX2, 700, 000
1st Runner Up: US$667       - UGX1, 800, 000
2nd Runner Up: US$481     -   UGX1,300, 000
4th Position: US$333           -   UGX   900, 000
5th position: US$222           -   UGX   600, 000
6th position: US$148           -   UGX   400, 000
7th position: US$130           -   UGX   350, 000
8th position: US$111           -   UGX   300, 000

9^th position: US$93 - UGX 250, 000

10^thposition: US$74 - UGX 200, 000

We may also offer novelty prizes as per our historical, regal, Ugandan style.

As has always traditionally been the case, for those sophisticated, cultured Scrabblers eager to taste the heavenly, exotic delights of Kampala on the sidelines of this showpiece, packages will be offered. (No joke, the number 2 on Uganda’s Tourism Board doubles as SAU’s head Honcho).

Please expedite your plans and let us know your itinerary. We are ready to send out customized Invitation letters for those who need them. Already the future of South African Scrabble is taking no chances and is applying for his Visa early in order to grace our spectacular Lake Victorian shores.
