Hi All,

Round 1 - Pyk Vs Evans

I get a walk over due to Evans coming late. I bitterly complain at the lost opportunity to amass spread. Evans celebrates his loss upon learning that he was paired against me, much to the amazement of other players.

Round 2 - PYK Vs Isaac Mwape

I open with POTENCY 80pts. IM retorts with OXO for 39pts. A few moves later, I drop AIERIES 78pts, VATTER and CERIC to bury IM 443-303

Round 3 - Pyk Vs Mwenya C Munkonge

I open with ZERDA for 50, KAF 31pts, then I drop back-to-back ENJOYED for 83pts and while holding DAUTING, I notice a hanging I which I promptlty surround to make AUDITING. In the lower triple line, I see the lettera ATE, I front-hook EVALUate into the TWS.I also score heavily with QAT, VOW AXE. Game ends 568-276 in my favour.

Round 4. Pyk Vs Patrick Mpundu

At this point, only PM and I are unbeaten. I open with FRILL and PM drops STONERAW through my R and I add 5pts for challenging. I hit back with JEWS 57pts before dropping ESERINE for 86pts. PM muscles his way thru by dropping JOEY 38pts, HONE 43pts before dropping GENITAL for 70pts. At this point our scores are almost at par but things soon change when i drop back-to-back GLITTER and TOMATOES. PM goes down 524-451.

Round 5 Pyk vs Dez

Dez opens with GUP which for some reason looks strange and I challenge unsuccessfuly. I drop GOOK which Dez challenges and returns the favour. Dez then in his usual fashion tries GASSEOUS* which I promptly challenge off and I play AJIVA 63pts .Dez dumps 2 of his Ss by playing SOS for 19pts. I play JOANNA for 31points including +5pts.Dez dumps a D which I use to drop UNTIdIER and he gives another +5pts. I can't understand why he challenged this.I score Heavily with HERDED39pts, TAUBE 35pts (+5pts) BETONY 46pts(+5pts). He drops TRIONES for 78pts and I immediately respond with COMPOSER. I bury Dez 548-322

Round 6 Pyk Vs Justin Chansa

I hit JC with TOXINES on move 1, QINS GOOP, RAZER, TRACKERS to take the game 476-249. While the spread is respectable, I fail to cross the 500 mark.

Round 7 - Pyk Vs Sido

Sydo drops READERS in the second move and I find myself chasing and struggling with tiles. SK however gives me chance to come back by playing 2 phoneys KNEATING* and OEK* I score heavily with CRAVE and QADI before dropping PRIVETS 109pts and DRAILING a move later. POZ for 49pts secures my lead and SK goes down 505-300. I must admit that I was worried when he was dropping a bingo while I had sh*t on my rack.

Round 8 Pyk Vs Capt Mumba

Its the first time I played this new player and I am impressed by his knowledge. However when the man Played EXONS with a blank as an S for 32pts, I knew he needed more "gym" to be able to fairly compete. We played a tit for tat game till I picked BATTLES which had nowhere to place. I dropped TESTABLe hooking to an existing E on the board. He struggles along and while I hold my last 7 tiles, he plays STY to block off a line but I drop PERIODS/STYe for 99pts. I win 474-284.

Round 9 - Pyk Vs Milton Unza1

This was a total mismatch. I opened with PATTERN for 74pts. I drop WORK 54pts, FILA 35pts, SHEA 35pts EMO 35Pts before dropping CROQUETS and PIRATING back-to-back. I still injure him with JAPAN 45pts and EXEAT 41pts before playing GOIER  for 30pts to close the game 617-174.

Round 10 Pyk Vs Patrick Mpundu

We now get into King of the Hill.

I play VICUNA and drop ECURIES, but PM is no push over, he drops INTRUDE and TOSSING back-to-Back. I play ROILS 30pts then ZONAL 68pts to come back in the game. While PM drops TWO, XI, HUIC, PIA, JEAT and QI, I drop OLEARIA, JARTA, MEVE, EKE and KIR to take the game 450-415.

At this point, I win the tourney with a 100% performance and 2 rounds to spare.

Round 11 Pyk Vs PM

PM opens with FOOD. I could have played YIP for 36 pts but I play PYLORIA* which PM Challenges off. There is PYROLI, PYROLA and PYROLIC  but not what I played. While I struggle, PM drops SAUTEED and SALTERN back-to-back At this point he leads 228-69pts. I come back and drop SNARIER 74pts and UNTIMED 88pts back-to-back. I then play IAMB before dropping ALOPECIA to take the lead.  PM drops HOX 44pts to take the lead again but I drop LUZ 32pts. PM drops FEY 33pts but I hit back with GETS 31pts. PM however picks the remaining blank, plays KEROS for 41pts while I hold GIIOEU. I play GIO for 18pts and PM goes out with TANG. He wins 434-400pts.

Rd 12 Pyk Vs PM

PM must win this game to secure 2nd position coz Mwenya has caught up with him on pts. But this was not to be. I dropped  ENTERED, QUOTING WILING, LOORD while PM played PINEWARE* (a brand name for a 2 plate cooker) which I promptly challenged off. PM plays WARPING 64pts, JAM 32pts WAX 33pts FEARES 27pts the KEB 34pts. In a rare occurence PM plays SOV 24pts and another SOV 38pts back to back. We rarely ever see a player drop the same word twice in a game. Its even more rare to have the same word dropped back-to-back. I wondered to myself if PM was holding SOVSOV? on his previous rack. While the SOV plays managed to choke the board, I dropped HOTSPUR 73pts. Of course injured PM challenged. I add salt to injury by dropping ZATI 33pts  and FUN 31pts. His BOVINE does little to help. Game end 459-369.

Tourney ends and I score 11/12 wins and a whooping spread of nearly 2000, averaging around 200 per game. MCM takes 2nd position with 10wins while PM takes 3rd on 9pts.

PM only lost to me.

I had a spread of +443 from Unza1. +140 from IM +292 from MCM +226 Dez + 227 JC +205 Sydo +190 Capt Mumba. Of the 4 games I played PM, none has a spread of over 100.

Regards,

Pyk
