Ibuilt a encrypted uboot, it can load the kernel image and dtb file, but gave an error of "Could not create optee node.ERROR: system-specific fdt fixup failed: FDT_ERR_NOTFOUND". I hangs there. Please refer to below for details. Could you advise that I used the correct versions of below modules? If not, what are the correct versions?
There are warnings: "bad CRC". Probably this is the cause of boot failure ?
Could it be problem of copying of u-boot files ... or erroneous formatting of sd-card.
Have someone an idea how to check these issues.
Thanks.
Sincerely,
Pavel.
As I mentioned before, when I try to boot from an SD card which only contains u-boot files (MLO and u-boot.img), on power-up (with S2 pushed) , BBB almost immediately switches to eMMC and boots from eMMC.
According to documentation, BBB boot from SD card when button S2 is pushed on power on. And it's indeed the case: when S2 is pushed, BBB is booted from SD card, but only if there is full linux on SDK. It doesn't boot when there is only boot files on SD card. What I trying to resolve: how to boot from SD card which has only u-boot files.
Can you give your opinion why I did not succeed in booting from SD card where there were only 2 u-boot files ... the operation that Chris Simmonds did 3 years ago. What has changed during these 3 years?
But according to Chris Simmonds, if on the SD card there is no kernel (i.e. only u-boot files), the user does not need to type when powering on and the system alone manages to switch to u-boot prompt - operation I failed to reproduce.
I really appreciated your help and your skills. The only issue (which in my opinion is closely related to this thread) that remains unresolved is:
How should BBB behave upon Power On when S2 button is pressed and on the SD card there are only 2 files in the boot partition (MLO and u-boot.img) ... without any actions from user ?
Do you consider that I can get an answer to this issue in this thread, or should I create a new one?

Based on your log, u-boot booted from mmc0(SD), try to load kennel from mmc0(SD) w/o success, then switch to mmc1 (eMMC)... This booting sequence is configured in environment variable built into the u-boot you're using.
Additionally while the Pi attempts to boot I see the following:
[FAILED] Failed to start Command from Kernel Command Line.
See 'systemctl status kernel-command-line.service' for details
[DEPEND] Dependency failed for Command from Kernel Command Line.
I thought this was affecting me, but I think I was instead seeing a bug in the Raspberry Pi Imager advanced setting when applied to ubuntu. The ubuntu image worked fine when I used dd to copy the image to the sd card.
Inspired by #7. Tried to reset advanced options in raspberry Pi imager and rewrite Ubuntu. It was able to boot. I guess there're something wrong with setting options via RPI for Ubuntu. Probably this is not a bug for ubuntu but RPI.
The u-boot script for the pi ( +source/flash-kernel/tree/bootscript/all/bootscr.rpi) attempts to load a u-boot environment named "boot.sel". If it finds it, it knows it's operating on Ubuntu Core and needs to adjust kernel, initrd, etc. paths to the currently unpacked kernel snap (or to the newly unpacked one if it's "trying" a new kernel). If it can't load this file (incidentally causing "Failed to load '//uboot/ubuntu/boot.sel'" to appear on the console), it knows it's on Classic and proceeds assuming everything's under the root of the boot partition.
Anyway, it can be safely ignored: it's not an error, but normal for the u-boot sequence on Classic up to Focal. From Groovy onwards, we're no longer using u-boot in the sequence so you won't see any of this output (unless you opt to use u-boot, which you still can for now).
The boot selector button on ODROID-M1 can switch the boot media from SPI to eMMC or SD card, or it turns into USB download mode when bootload in eMMC or SD card is failed. By default, SPI has the most higher priority than eMMC and SD card.
The second stage is to read a bootloader (U-Boot) and run bootscripts to start large operating system. ODROID-M1 has onboard SPI flash memory and it has a dedicated partition for small operating system, by default Petitboot is flashed.
This is a legacy script of U-Boot and this becomes a default boot script for ODROID-M1. This file is in a binary format with 64 bytes header at the beginning, the most contents in the file is to set up a bootint parameters and load operating system files, Linux kernel, ramdisk and device tree files.
This file stores configurations to change a booting procedure or kernel parameters, it's been introduced to reduce the complexity from mixed U-Boot commands and configurations in lengthy boot.ini. Most common uses of this file is to select device tree overlay files.
As shown in the boot sequence diagram, the higher priority boot media is SPI rather than eMMC or SD card. The on-board SPI flash memory contains the bootloader as well as a default boot manager OS a.k.a Petitboot which helps to boot OS in eMMC and SD as well as USB storage and M.2 NVMe. This helps one to run different operating systems installed easily.
Besides disadvantages of using Petitboot are spending more time to run Petitboot itself and delays to boot up a target operating system. In case you do not necessary to manage multiple operating systems and start an operating system in eMMC or SD card, one can make Petitboot be ignored so that the bootloader (U-Boot) starts an operating system in eMMC or SD card. Please note that this method can boot up in eMMC or SD card, not USB nor M.2 MVMe.
