Aim: There is a paucity of long-term data on soft tissue aesthetics of single immediate implants. The objective of this study was to evaluate the 5-year clinical and aesthetic outcome of this treatment concept.

Materials and methods: Twenty-two periodontally healthy patients (12 men, 10 women; mean age 50) with low risk for aesthetic complications (thick gingival biotype, intact buccal bone wall, both neighbouring teeth present) were consecutively treated with a single immediate implant in the aesthetic zone (15-25). Flapless surgery was performed and the gap between the implant and buccal bone wall was systematically filled with bovine bone particles. Implants were immediately non-functionally loaded with a screw-retained provisional crown. Cases demonstrating major alveolar process changes and/or advanced mid-facial recession (>1 mm) at 3 months were additionally treated with a connective tissue graft (CTG). Permanent crowns were installed at 6 months. The clinical and aesthetic results at 5 years were compared to those obtained at 1 year.

Conclusion: Single immediate implants showed high implant survival and limited marginal bone loss in the long term. However, mid-facial recession, mid-facial contour and alveolar process deficiency deteriorated after 1 year. With an aesthetic complication rate of 8/17 in well-selected patients who had been treated by experienced clinicians, type I placement may not be recommended for daily practice.

I spoke with a colleague earlier this year about the success of his practice. Exclusively nonsurgical medical aesthetics offered in his fairly small-sized clinic. He runs on a lean staff and has remarkable retention of patients. His revenue is over $10,000,000 annually.

Many of your treated patients like their results but ask them if there is anything more you can help them with. Chances are, they have more needs and are willing to try more products and services to achieve the results they are hoping for.

Corragecore is not, however, the only popular aesthetic. Last year I was asked to buy Thing 2 hair scrunchies and Hydroflask water bottles because of the VSCO aesthetic. You can even find articles and ideas about VSCO girl starter packs on popular teen sites like Teen Vogue: -girl-starter-pack. (I bought her scrunchies but made her save up her own money for the Hydroflask because those are super expensive.)

There are other aesthetics popular with teens: soft girls and dark academia and afrofuturism. The list over at aesthetics.fandom.com of aesthetic types is actually quite long: _of_Aesthetics. And YPulse has a really good look at the influence of, well, social media influencers and aesthetics here: -girls-instagram-baddies-and-vsco-girls-the-social-media-styles-influencing-gen-z/. Buro247 has a list of popular 2020 aesthetics here: -loves/from-vsco-girl-to-e-boy-these-are-the-aesthetics-o.html.

Aesthetics is about branding. Branding oneself. But also, brands have latched onto the idea of aesthetics to market to Gen Z as well. I even used this concept recently, without really knowing I was doing so, when I created an RA list of readalikes for Billie Eilish fans and one for Taylor Swift fans. I was applying the concept of the aesthetic with book recommendations.

When reading about aesthetics you will quickly find that a lot of the aesthetics being talked about in the media are very white centered, as unfortunately a lot of the media always has. As teen librarians, a field dominated by white women, we need to be really careful when reading about and thinking about using the idea of aesthetics as promotional tools not to become too white focused and exclusionary. So engage in research and promotion with intention and an eye to inclusion, as you should all things.

For iPhone users, the newest update even allows them to personalize their homescreen to fit their personal aesthetic: -tumblr-to-ios-14-how-aesthetic-home-screens-became-a-trend/. This is something that apparently Android users have been able to do for a while.

Aesthetic nursing is made to look extremely glamorous on social media. It all seems like rainbows and butterflies and WHY THE HECK would you not want this to be your career?! But what about the aesthetic nurse salary? Is it comparable to what you make at the bedside? Will you need to take a pay cut? Or can it be insanely lucrative?

Depending on the type of environment, the pay structure may differ. I go into a little more detail about this in this blog post here: [AESTHETIC VS. BEDSIDE NURSING]. And also in a YouTube video that you can watch HERE. But in my own experience, I started off on an hourly pay structure.

Coming from the hospital, where everything is predictable and stable, this was a little terrifying to consider. My paycheck would directly reflect my work output. But knowing myself, I said yes. I love competition, mostly against myself. I love having goals to work toward. So I trusted her and we made the switch.

The infographic above displayed the average hourly wage from each of my nursing jobs so far. When I left my full time (90%) bedside nursing job I was making $65/hr. I moved to per diem on my same unit and was making $81/hr working only 3-4 shifts per month. When I started my aesthetic nursing job I was making $50/hr with the promise of jumping to $60/hr after my probation period. Before that time was up I switched to hourly + commission.

Obviously, with a commission based style pay, there will be ups and downs, ebbs and flows. You will also become more skilled and more efficient overtime. So you can only really limit yourself. I love the fact that I have some control over the money I take home every month. And the sky is the limit in my mind! So I hope this was helpful to you.

Many of these follow a similar life cycle: A term pops off on TikTok, fashion commentators and journalists write about it, it becomes the buzzword of the moment, and then, invariably, mentioning the term in earnest becomes kind of cringe. And so, below, explore and (re)discover the online fashion trends that defined 2023.

Definition: A way to look like you stepped out of The Nutcracker. Ballet-inspired fashion is nothing new, but it hit a fever pitch this year. The New York City Ballet collaborated with Reformation and J.Crew within the span of two months. The balletcore look is characterized by soft colors, tulle, bows, and pointe shoes. No doubt the ballet-flat resurgence helped this trend.

How real is it?: With 3.3 million views under the hashtag on TikTok and a Target edit on the trend, it was a major aesthetic of the summer but not of the year. Peaked quickly and sharply on Google Trends and never recovered.

How real is it?: 213.5M views on TikTok, with derivations like coastal cowgirl fashion (9M views), coastalcowgirlcore (4M), and coastalcowgirl decor (773.9K views). It was a genuine TikTok trend that fit into the yearslong affinity for Americana.

How real is it?: Though quite similar to Y2K McBling aesthetics, Bimbocore was never as widespread as some of the others on this list, but it has its devotees and 146 million views on TikTok.

So what is dark academia? I would describe it as centering around muted color tones, universities, classical literature and art, desire for knowledge, and most importantly the discipline of self-discovery.

The romanticization of academic pursuits started well before our current understanding, which is centered around academic-based works and media. Our current concept of dark academia is rooted in the visual imagery as well, hallmarks of the professional academic. Tweed, leather, linen are part of the uniform; coffee, tea, wine become the food and drink. These all have their roots in the concept of the academy or institute.

Ever since I was young, I have had a fascination with gaining knowledge and learning more about the world. Being a shy and introverted child, during my elementary school years I would often spend time reading and daydreaming during recess and class time. However, during middle school and early high school I found myself in a slump; I no longer had the time to read for fun and learn for enjoyment.

However, at the end of my sophomore year when I was deciding what classes I would be taking during my junior year, I chose to sign up for several AP courses. When people asked me what classes I would be taking, I would tell them my course list, which would get some interesting responses.

It may be 2020, but what exactly is stopping us from pursuing knowledge and having fun while doing so? Take pleasure in things such as researching random topics that interest you in between completing homework assignments, develop a caffeine addiction from drinking tea and coffee (with caution), find happiness in reading poems outside of your English classes, relax while reading books illuminated by candlelight, wear that dramatic coat or button up shirt paired with a face mask out to the grocery store, get excited when your screen turns green while playing Kahoot in class, and most importantly savor the little things in life.
