Subject: Interview at George Mitchell School
As I explained in my telephone call this afternoon, I would like to
invite you to interview this Friday, for the post of Teacher of
English and Media at George Mitchell School. As you know, this is a
one-year contract, to cover a maternity leave - however, this does
not, in any way, lessen our ardour and determination to appoint the
very best candidate for the job.
As is usual at George Mitchell, the interview day will be a gruelling
but thorough experience, through which you will be able to decide
unequivocally whether this is the school for you, just as we need to
decide whether you are the teacher for us. Consequently, I urge you to
take every opportunity during the day to ask questions and get a
genuine feel for what it would be like to teach among us. I love
working here, more so than anywhere else in my not unprolific career,
but I am perhaps somewhat biased: this is your opportunity to find out
for yourself.
The day will begin with a brief introduction to the school by me, and
will then move straight away to a panel interview with a group of MLB
consultants (see below for details of our Student Voice programme).
This will be followed by a 40-45 minute lesson to a Y7 or Y8 class, on
an English topic of your choice, to be observed by a mixture of staff
and students. The morning will conclude with a thorough tour of the
school, also giving you the opportunity to ask as many questions as
you like of your two MLB tour guides.
At lunchtime, we will receive a detailed feedback from the MLB
consultants themselves, upon whose recommendation we will decide which
candidate(s) are to be taken through to the formal interview in the
afternoon. Should the MLB consultants feel that a particular candidate
is not suited to the school, or should any candidate decide this is
not the place for them, they will not be 'shortlisted' for the final
stage of the interview process.
Should you have any further questions regarding the day, or should you
wish to discuss any particular requirements for your lesson, please do
not hesitate to contact me. Additionally, should you need any
information regarding accommodation locally or travel to/from the
school, just let me know.
The students, my department and I look forward to meeting you on Friday.
Regards
Matthew
