Well, looks like anyone waiting for their machine will never be getting one. The logistics company that was holding the existing boxes is selling their stock to recover money.

From the about us:

This site is operated by China European e-Commerce Limited, we were part of the group that provided warehousing and delivery services to Makible for the MakiBox products. When Makible collapsed owing us a seven figure sum for our services we ended up with the stock held in our warehouse to help pay off their debts – that is the stock that we are selling on this site. It is all brand new and unused, but it is ‘sold as seen’ and there is a limited amount available, when its gone its gone.

Regards,
Aaron

A seven-figure sum? Even if we assume that's in Chinese yuan, it's
still well over a hundred thousand US dollars. How did they manage to
go that far under?

The filament they're selling might be attractive for UK buyers, even
if the Makibox itself is not.

Yeah, this seems sketchy.

Also, there's no individual filament option.(that I can see mobile) Even if there was, it'll be hard to beat $18/kg:  http://www.foxsmart.club/3d/filament.html

450 units x 300 pounds = 135,000 pounds ~1.3 million yuan

their prices are basically the same as what Makibox was selling them for
.. but marked up in British Pounds rather than USD
anyone who has a Makibox invoice will see that, so I don't know who they
are trying to sell to with those prices

a few thousand units with freight for each costing a double digit dollar
figure, a hundred thousand dollars sounds about right

anyway, it is sad to see this happen, I think Makible would have a good
thing going if they over came the business side of things

You can get the filament here:
http://www.makiboxclearance.co.uk/collections/all

1kg for £12.99 isn't bad.

The company running the website was incorporated on 02-SEP-2014.

For detailed information they want money, if you want to conduct some research yourself go to: http://www.icris.cr.gov.hk/csci/

He already started a new Kickstarter

and they use his name to promote the product. He is connected with them through something called Mind Fund.

Looks like they're just thanking him for some unspecified help. He's
active in the HK startup community.

But even if he were involved, why the hate? Business ventures don't
always succeed, guys, in fact most of them don't.

My sentiments exactly. Shit happens.

Michael,

Great point.... If you wanted a guaranteed printer, why go through a kickstarter-type campaign?

Anyway - they made a huge effort and probably made little money for themselves.

I will say that maybe the model is flawed.  If you look at private aircraft, they take deposits that help f the company land equity and debt financing for the in-design aircraft.  If the company does not fulfill, deposits are returned.  But this was quite clear that you were contributing to the development of a new product and nothing was guaranteed.

Laurie,

I did NOT go through a kickstarter campaign.
I was looking for a printer and found the makibox site.  They had a webshop, promising delivery in 10 weeks. There printer was a good deal.

I had found youtube flics that showed me those makibox printers actually existed and not a hoax, the shop seemed legit. With a good price and reasonable delivery time.

So yeah,  I believed i was buying a real thing. From a real shop.

Then the mails started coming about delays and more delays and more delays.

I didn't want a kickstarted project, for this very reason. I wanted a guaranteed product.
Didn't get it though. By the time i realised i was fooled, my paypal-protection period had long passed.

Well, consider yourself lucky you didn’t get your paperweight. You’d feel compelled to purchase aftermarket parts to attempt to make it work (hot end, bearings, extruder & fan in my case). In the end you would realize you have spent 100 euro more, still not having a working printer. Then you feel really screwed.

Sold mine on ebay for 50€, just to cover some of the losses and get rid of it, bought an inkbethink afterward, which is way more value for just a little bit more money. Works out of the box.
