Hi,

I received my Makibox on 14 april 2014, but this morning, my hot end is dead (just one month and half later).

I sent to makible a new one for replacement immediately and I will wait their answer...

Someone is in the same situation ? Does Makible replace this part ? And what is the procedure ?

Tks.

They'll ask you to pay the highway-robbery price of shipping the dead end internationally to them, and then maybe send you a replacement end back.

It's completely ridiculous as far as ethical business practices go, and looks like most people on the forums, including myself, have basically resorted to getting it at a sane price from 3rd-party manufacturers.

Makibox: If you can't afford to install a decent hot end, pass the price on to the customer!

The customer support from Makibox is dead end.

I just cited Jon (Jonathan Buford, Makibox founder) from a former correspondence:
"You are right, we are not able to offer the level of service you are asking for because we believed in selling the machines at a lower price than anyone else. We have to be somewhat conservative with our support arrangements, otherwise, we will not be able to provide that support to anyone.

We are in the process of introducing upgrades to the current design that will resolve the bulk of the issues people have reported, but that will also come with a bump in price so that we can afford to provide the support that you are demanding.

Thank you for being part of bringing this product to market, and I hope that with the updates coming up, you will be able to find that satisfaction you are looking for.

Thanks,

Jon"

I have a non working zen wheel drive, and asked for replacement parts. I got nothing yet.

I requested RMA for money back for a delivery non functional product out of the box, neverless it is a DIY kit. I got no feedback from customer support how to handle.

I requested a cancellation of the Ramen, as there is no further product development recognizable. No feedback yet.

I had one fail, I got the feeling it could have been related to over zealous cleaning on the end with acetone, and destroying the hot end PCB element. However I contacted makible, they did indeed want to have the old one sent, as per standard warranty. I decided I would just order a replacement instead, they were more than happy. Iirc was round 30 bux including shipping, so a no brainer.
Just my two cents.

I sent two hot ends back to them at a total cost of less than $10US. They promptly sent me two replacements at no additional cost. In my experience they've been quite good about replacing problematic components.

And when you received your new hotends, are they work correctly ? (or is it the same bad product...)

Well, they're exactly the same hot end, so they work fine for some period of time. This hot end design has some issues and they do burn out periodically. The most commonly cited duration I've seen mentioned before burnout is 30-40 hours of printing, which is consistent with my experience.

I suspect my hot end is also bad but pronterface temperature reading shows the proper set temperature. Before I go to MakiBox customer service with a report of failure, is there a definitive diagnostic procedure to follow?

Ooooo. Of someone has the time,  a diagnostic process would be good to add to the wiki!

All the failures I've heard of or experienced have been complete - it works fine until the heating element just suddenly stops working completely. No temperature rise above ambient room temp is then possible.

My hot end is still going strong (I've printed over a kg of filament, probably 100-150 hours of print time). I had a failure at the beginning where the wire came loose from the solder point on the flex-circuit. I resoldered and it's been fine since then.

It's appropriate that I'm responding to John Barnhardt's email in this thread. I owe him/you a huge THANK YOU  for creating and sharing the FroZen. It's made a huge difference for my printer. Your willingness to share and give to the community is a wonderful thing.

Hello All,

WARNING, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU LEAVE YOUR MAKIBOX ON AND UNTENDED.

While in the past an advocate for Makible, and all things makibox, today is my last day (or rather night) dealing with this.
I was one of the "lucky" original 300. I actually received my box last November. And since then, I have wasted well over 200 hours troubleshooting, and attempting to get this device working. I in the past two days, had it working to the point where I was able to print a Frozen drive and a few mounts for my incoming e3D v6.

My d8 board just caught fire while I had the device sitting and doing nothing. Repeteir host shows a sudden crazy voltage spike on the HT platform and in the hot end.  I measured the temp of both with my IR gun, the hotend was at least 300C (gun doesn't read higher than that.) And the bed 130.

I was not adjusting any commands, playing with the firmware, or doing anything outside of what should be considered "normal use."

Right now, it is my understanding that Makible could very likely be going bankrupt. I am not seeking compensation or replacement parts, I simply want to warn everyone.

Sincerely,
Altometer

So you use a candle for preparing the board like this?
That is never produced by electricity!

Thanks for the heads up! Could you please show us pics of the connectors, wires and also pics of the wires where they connect to the platform and hotend? Was there any other damage to the chassis/equipment or other wires near these wires?
Thanks, Jack

No more damages, just the PCB burned in the HE...

Amazing how all the melting occurs on the outside of where the actual electricity occurs and how the melted plastic flows into the areas where the connectors would have been if they had actually been connected.

Please spread this FUD somewhere else. These lies are not needed nor appreciated. And stop trying to hijack a legitimate thread with completely unrelated garbage.
