XMission has a wifi router dish for the Makesaltlake roof.

It's my wifes birthday tomorrow, so I won't be making it out to the space this week.

If someone can do a little roof-recon, that would help a lot.
It needs a vertical mast to mount to, with a clear view of Ensign Peak.  The dish is 25cm, like a directTV dish, but a little smaller.
I haven't actually taken a look north when I've been at the space, but I don't *think* there are any obstructions.

Power to the router travels over the same ethernet cable as the data, so the inside-end of the cable would need
to end up wherever the indoor wifi AP will be.  Someplace central enough to cover all the rooms would be ideal.

I'll try to get the router pre-configured, so we can just bolt it in to place.

If someone can scout out the rooftop mounting possibilities, that would be great.

Has anyone begun the process of finding a mounting point?  I've got a lot of old gear from my Wireless Internet company if we need tri-pod mounts, etc.

Do we have a ladder at the space to get on the roof?

We have a straight shot view of Ensign Peak.  There are plenty of spots to mount a pipe/mast for the dish. The only concern I have is that the view to Ensign\ Peak is through high tension power lines.  I don't think that this is an issue, but I think worth mention.

Some wires should be fine, it's the trees you have to watch out for.

Nope, no trees.  We're golden.

Dang trees and their radiation.

I thought trees had radiation sucking leaves?

Bill ... I'm at the space today, and realized there is already a mast on the roof that appears to have enough space and a clear view of the capitol.

Do you think this mast will work for the dish you want to install?

You could mount it below this old-fashions VHF antenna?

I've held off doing anything else until we determine if we can use the mast (photo above in the last post) that is already in place.

If we can use that, then I'll see if I can run the Ethernet to it ... but I also need the details of the weatherproof connector ... can you fit an RJ45 connector through the opening?  Or do you need to put the connector on afterwards?

It's looking like I can't do much else until after the holiday ... I'm out until the 1st of December.

That looks fine.  we could mount it just a few inches up, just enough to stay out of the snow.
