Yep I am going to actually do it... ;) I am just going to add to this
thread every time. The only bummer I see is that this system has a
complete lack of formatting. Perhaps I can develop a logic with line
breaks, dashes, and such.

7 Jan 2012
In attendance: Lamar Tillery, Eric L. Van Iderstine, Ms. Van
Iderstine , Daniel McSwain, Thomas Asmuth, Jonathan Bowen, Carl
Swanson

1. Carl talked about the need to follow up on our registration and an
LLC and he collected the names of members he had not met yet

2. Lamar asked about who was the core of the group?

Thomas pointed out that with the exception of Mr. McSwain and Ms. Van
Iderstine, that the rest of the attendees have met on a very regular
basis and seem to be the committed core.

3. Discussion turned to the opportunities that Thomas has been
exploring for a site. Thomas reported on an unexpected invitation had
arisen during the committee work on the relocation of the Belmont Arts
Center(BAC) to the Long Hollow property. A fellow member of the BAC
Board, Michelle MacNeil, also chairs the Long Hollow Neighborhood
Association(LHNA) which has adjacent property which is already under
their purvey and is under utilized. Recently they have brought in
another community organization, Pensacola Open Books, to help fulfill
the their goal to enriching the neighborhood. Thomas was invited to
attend the LHNA meeting this past week to describe to the other board
members his vision of the Makerspace and how it might benefit the
community.

LHNA was eager to continue talks about the occupation of a 1200 sq.
ft. building that LHNA would like seen used as a creative space .
There were many questions to how the LHNA and Makerspace Pensacola
will interact. Michelle MacNiel voiced that she was interested in
getting the makerspace very integrated with the community, not simply
leasing to us. Discussion was had over the nature of programs the
space would sponsor for the neighborhood, how insurance will be
figured out, etc. Thomas requested that LHNA look into how much daily
insurance costs under the LHNA policy for a public/open event.

Pensacola Open Books will be hosting a grand opening on Feb 4 12pm to
10pm, LHNA asked if Makerspace Pensacola would like to do demos in the
space as a trial run to see the space and see if the two organizations
are a good fit together. Thomas remarked that last meeting there was a
lot of discussion about getting out in public to actually do some
stuff and to raise our visibility. Thomas thought this was a good idea
to get started.

Thomas put the question to the Makerspace meeting attendees to see if
others will be willing to do some demos between 12 and 5pm on that
date.
-Jonathan B. offered to bring an autonomous robot he has built.
-The Van Iderstines said they can bring the Eggbot
-Thomas volunteered to bring two Makerbots

It was requested that we try to get a look at the site in the next
week, Thomas will follow up on that.

4. There was some follow up on the website. There is a need to find a
consistent and usable communication interface. Lamar commented that
the Google+ system was not working for him.

A forum was discussed.

Carl asked for other suggestions on updates to the group website and
mentioned that many other Hackerspaces use a monthly newsletter via
email.

Jonathan put forward that it would be easy to set a google doc for to
capture email addresses of interested parties.

There was a question whether anyone had looked at the page analytics
to see if there are 'lurkers' checking us out. It has not been done
yet

Thomas suggested we work out a mission statement and get that on the
website per Jonathan's suggestion in a previous discussion.

5. The Van Idertines demonstrated the Eggbot. And it was AWESOME.

6. Carl said he would follow up with John Butler on the LLC
information.

7. Follow up meeting for planning our demos set for next week Ozone,
6pm 14 Jan. 2012

So recorded by Thomas Asmuth, whilst avoiding his paying job.
Additions and corrections are welcome. Just reply to the thread.

Again sorry for my lack of attendance.  Don't forget In offering my site/server as an option too.  Maybe we can take a closer look at that next week?  Or are we skipping the 14th?

Selroth,

I would like to take you up on the offer of your site please - I have the main site but I would like to get a forum working.  I am happy to link to any pages you might want to post as well but I definitely would appreciate it if you could host and admin a forum for us?  If you have any reservations we have some other options though.

Best,
Carl

Awesome.  I'd be happy to contribute!  I'd certainly welcome some conversation in the forums - there's loads to talk about between chit-chat, progressing the hackerspace itself, getting to know eachother and projects, and more!  Are you available for any chat medium today Carl so we can collaborate in real time?  I see no need to spam everyone else.

For everyone else, I'll see you next week.  Same place and time I assume, unless otherwise stated?

Just to follow up on the Google+ issue:

If I log in to Google+ and then search for the Makerspace Pensacola
group, I can see that I'm following the group but I cannot see any
posts. I get a message saying that the group has not shared anything
with me. However, as you can see from this post, I can get to the
group by clicking on the link at the bottom of the emails sent to me
from the group.

Prospective members may run into the same issue, only without benefit
of the group's emails. Don't know much about Google+ yet, but is
there a way for whoever set up this group to change a setting to
"share" with anyone who follows the group?

I'm happy to bring some Arduino goodies to the February demo. Also,
if we have power available, a "learn to solder" set up.

Does anyone have any suggestions for "blinkies"? People love shiny
objects...

We could use a magnet, a battery, and an LED to make a simple blinky no solder needed just some hot glue. Add a flag with our website. Toss them around and we have blinking electronic tags. Kids will love them. Easy to find and cleanup afterwords.

With the exception of last week the makerspacepensacola.com website will have the next meeting info.  We are good for next week.  I can conference briefly tonight via cell phone if you like.

I'd be willing to do something for the 4th. Anyone interested in a
meetup to "create" some cool stuff before then? If anyone would like
to spend a weeknight or even a Saturday or Sunday making some blinkies
or some new robots, I've got my shop/man cave pretty much setup if you
don't mind the drive.
